I guess you need to program the long roll yourself, trying to give some light (human) variations in timing and velocity.

Hi, I’m trying to create a sustained orchestral-type roll using the closed roll articulation in the standard version of SD3. However, regardless of how long I make the MIDI note, the roll always plays for the same duration – a few buzzed strokes and then it dies out. Is there a way to extend this to sustain for as long as I’d like?

    I’d appreciate any solutions!

What kit piece in which preset? Are you talking about using the core library?

A snare drum (specifically, the 4″ x 14″ Ludwig Black Beauty) in the core library — I have the closed roll articulation enabled, but extending the note length in the grid editor doesn’t affect the sound at all.

Sampled articulations are one shot, and do not change when you change the note length. Rules of any length need to be done manually using the grid editor on your DAW.

or the grid editor within SD self. Shootie has a good video on how to program rolls, even using ramps, but I can’t recall at the moment where is it and if it was a members only or open video. Maybe it was part of a long video I watched some weeks ago.

Autocorrect fail… it was supposed to say grid editor or your DAW.

    Autocorrect is my worst enema.

I think the worst autocorrect is in Mac Mail.
