    Hi,

there are several ways to work with the multiple outs from SD3 in Pro Tools, depending on your preferred workflow.

    Personally, I either:
    – create 1 Stereo Instrument Track in Pro Tools for the SD3 plugin and add Aux Tracks for how many separated outputs I want for the particular session, whether it is on a per microphone basis, per instrument group bus basis or having a Send from the SD3 mixer to an FX bus in the PT mixer.
Then I either use the SD3 Song Track to hold all MIDI or I program/record to the Instrument Track in PT.

    – create separate Stereo Instrument Tracks for Kicks, Snares, Toms, HH and Cymbals but insert the SD3 plugin on the first (e.g. my Kick Instrument Track) and then route all those Tracks MIDI output to the 1st track’s SD3 plugin and then set the Audio Inputs to the separate SD3 Plug-In outputs.
This way I can have the  MIDI separated on the Tracks in PT, grouped together with the corresponding Audio.

I have seen that some PT people prefer having the Plug-In on an Instrument Track but still using separate outputs to Aux Tracks and then having the MIDI on a separate MIDI Track.

You cannot route audio from PT to the SD3 plugin’s mixer, so having PT mixer plug-ins PRE SD3 mixer FX is not possible per se but maybe you can get creative with having pre Sends in the SD3 mixer to separate outputs but I am not sure ATM how you would succeed in adding the signals up without getting other problems with phase, etc. I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve and which plugin we’re talking about in the chain.

    BR,
    John

I will experiment with your advice and my initial idea – If I stumble across something I will post it, thanks again
