Hi there,
This might be a dumb question, but I’m still learning my way around SD3. Is there a way to save an individual modified midi Groove other than exporting the entire song as a
midi file?
Thanks,
Ed
Hi,
you can drag the modified groove from the Song Track to the User MIDI folder.

Thanked by: david rockowerIn the Grooves tab’s left side you’ll see all your libraries (as folders). In the bottom there’s a User MIDI folder. You can drag MIDI grooves to that, or to subfolders created in it…
edit: John got his answer fired away just before I did 😀

Hi John,
Thanks — is there a way to retitle the loop so that it saves as a new file and doesn’t overwrite an existing, purchased loop?
Regards,
Ed
All files and folders inside User MIDI can be renamed. Right click the item and choose “Rename”…
You can also manage the User MIDI folders and files in Explorer on Windows/Finder on Mac. Right click the User MIDI folder in SD3 and select Show in Explorer/Finder.
After you do changes outside SD3 you need to right click the User MIDI folder in SD3 and sync the file changes…

I am in pro tools and when I drag the midi file into the folder it simply bounces it down to a track?
Hi David,
Pro Tools (and most other DAWs) prohibits dragging from host to plug-in but not the other way around.
What is discussed above is dragging MIDI from the SD3 Song Track to the ‘User MIDI’ folder(s).
If you have MIDI on your Pro Tools Instrument Track you wish to add to your SD3 ‘User MIDI’ folder(s), please first record it to your SD3 Song Track by hitting rec in SD3 and then play in Pro Tools. Make sure to Trim the recorded MIDI before dragging it from the Song Track.

AHA!!!!!!!!!!! How do you modify the suggested tempo?
That’s not something you can change afterwards. If you record a groove at a certain tempo, it is the tempo saved with the groove, AFAIK.

I find this limitation rather silly. I create a lot of grooves within my DAW (S1) timeline and would love to save them in my SD3 library.

Hi Scott, which limitation are you referring to?

Hey John,
Thanks for your reply.
I Love the creative flow with SD3 and using the editor to create grooves within SD3. Very intuitive and super helpful with workflow. And I absolutely love the expansive library of midi grooves which I’ve purchased a lot of.
Many of the projects I work on start from an idea I have when away from my studio. I’ll beatbox an idea into my audio notes, and then later in my studio, I’ll create that beat in one of my DAWs.
The limitation that I experience is when I have a groove that I created in my daw (S1 6.0 & Reason Studio), and I’d like to drag that midi clip into SD3 to save it into my library of grooves for further development within SD3. And sometimes, it’s a project that I have saved from the past, and I want to modify, remix, or revamp.
I’ve searched but can’t find how to do this. Maybe I’m missing it.
Other than that I’m very satisfied with SD3 and all your products.
Thanks
Best Regards, Scott
Hi Scott,
draggin to plug-ins is generally restricted by DAWs. You can drag from Explorer/Finder to SD3 or if you have MIDI on the Instrument Track in your DAW, you can record it onto the SD3 Song Track. Importing MIDI via the SD3 Song Track Menu also is possible.

Thank you John!
Greatly appreciate your help. I’ll try the record from the DAW midi track feature. And I’ll also play with saving the Midi track into a midi File and importing via drag and drop from Explorer.
Thank you.
Best Regards, Scott
