I was not thinking clearly when i put the entire massive download on my system drive… I now want to delete and re-download to my external drive, or i want to MOVE everything from my system to my external.
What’s the best plan of action here? Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
When you say download, does that mean you have not run the installer yet? If you have not run the installer for Superior Drummer 3 Library Part 1 – Basic Sound Library, then you will have the option of installing the libray on an external drive when you run the installer.
If you have already run the installer then; Shutdown Product Manager and SD3.
In Finder;
Go to [Macintosh HD]/Library/Application Support and copy the folder; SL-SuperiorDrummer3 to your external drive.
Rename [Macintosh HD]/Library/Application Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3 to [Macintosh HD]/Library/Application Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3_ORIG
Start SD3, it should complain that it can’t find the sample library and give you the option to navigate to the new location.
If it doesn’t, in SD3 go to Settings > Libraries/Paths and select the edit menu at the end of the of the Superior Drummer 3 path and navigate to the new location. (like the screen shot).
That should do it. Once it’s working properly, you should be able to delete the folder;
[Macintosh HD]/Library/Application Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3_ORIG

Thanks so much for the impeccable detail!
The closest path to the one you suggested, for me is […application support/toontrack…] – – – Once i follow the Toontrack folder there are the following folders:
[“Product Manager” , “Superior 2”, and “Superior 3” ]
And then under those folders a bunch of other folders etc..
Should i adjust the name change accordingly as per your recommendation? So… [library/application support/toontrack_ORIG]? And then proceed?
Hi blisswizard111,
do NOT start with moving or renaming anything in that path.
You first need to check exactly where your library is installed, either by:
When you have located your ‘SL-SuperiorDrummer3’ folder, you can copy it to the desired drive and location then follow Brad’s instructions above.

The folder location of SL-Superior Drummer3 in my instructions is based on the assumption the default location was used. Please follow John’s instructions to locate SL-Superior Drummer3 and continue on with my original instructions using that location. Do not move are rename anything else.

Alright alright got it all moved over to the external and deleted the folder on the system drive w/ the _ORIG extension…
My only issue now is that after deleting that folder off the system drive, i did NOT get 22o gigs of something deleted off my drive… my storage ratio has stayed pretty much the same. What should i do now?

Did you empty/clear the trash? That should result in reclaiming drive space.

Yeah that was the first thing i did after deleting. Didn’t seem to make a difference. I just went into the documents and largest files and deleted a ton of “sound.obw” files that were all like 2+ gigs a piece though… i think they might have been correlated somehow.
Now all of a sudden it’s telling me the library is damaged and it’s asking me to reinstall it? I don’t get it. When i copied that folder as directed it took forever and was over 200 gigs… deleting the _ORIG didnt clear the space off my system drive but i had all those loose “.obw” files floating around on my system drive and when i deleted them now the space has been cleared but it’s telling me the library is damaged now. Is there a way to just delete every toontrack file off of my drives and just re-download the whole thing onto my external from the toontrack website again? Sorry for the hassle. This is frustrating.
Alright i don’t know.. somehow i may have deleted some files but it says deleted in the product manager and gives me the option to download them all again and reinstall so i’m just gonna do it right this time. Thanks for the help man really appreciate it. Happy holidayS.
What folder did you move to the external drive?
Did you go into SD3 > settings > Libraries/paths and change the directory to the one you moved?
What folder did you delete and where was it located?
When you run the installer for Superior Drummer 3 Library Part 1 – Basic Sound Library, you will have the option to install the sound library to an alternate location. Navigate to your external drive and have them installed there and you should be ok.
Happy Holidays (though in Canada we had our Thanksgiving in October…)
