Hello;
I’ve asked this before a few times and it still hasn’t worked out for me, so I’ll ask again:
How do you choke a crash cymbal in EZD 2? I have a new project and a choked crash at the end would be such a delight. I know about going to the Details tab, then the Articulations side tab in the instrument. According to one YouTuber source I should just be able to move the note in my MIDI editor to that note (ex D2) and I should have a choked crash. But it doesn’t work for me! All I get is the regular sustained crash sound. I would be soooooooooo grateful if some kind soul could finally set me straight on this. It’s torture to know that a program has the capability to do something like this but I just can’t seem to find out how to make it happen!
BTW-My DAW is Cakewalk by Bandlab.
Thanks
John B
In the Details panel, when you click on “Mute Hit”, do you hear the cymbal choke audition?
If you’re positive that the cymbal you’re using has a “Mute Hit” articulation in it’s Instruments Details panel, then check the velocity of the hit. Crank it up to max, in Cakewalk. That’s the only obvious thing I can think of if you think you’re doing it correctly already.
*Also, I believe Cakewalk is capable of filtering your midi notes. May want to check that out and make sure the true note is getting to EZD2.
**Another thought. Drag midi file in question into EZD2 Song Track. Open this Midi Block into Edit Play Style, Change articulation to Mute Hit in Edit Play Style. Is it working yet? Drag back to Cakewalk. Is it now working in Cakewalk?

I dont know if you have the same problemas i had but for me it was that my default velocity in my daw was set to 80%. When i set it at 100% it reproduce the exact same sound as ez2 and fully choke cymbals.
****** Edit**** If you read my initial message, I changed it because I got confused since you’re both named John/Jon… Sorry about that.
Jonathan…
It’s not a problem you’re having, but a limitation. EZD2 is only capable of 2 separate choke articulations in which you access via velocity in your DAW or with editing articulations in EZD2 itself. If you’re hearing only 2 articulations, one short and one long, you’re good. Consider cross-grading to Superior if you need more flexibility. Though I only remember SD2 doing well with chokes, I can only assume SD3 does it too, I haven’t put the time in yet to know for myself.
If it’s not something you need often or perfect sounding, you could work-around/automate it with one of many methods outside of EZD2.
Hope that helps.

Shootie & Jon-Thanks. Yes, if I audition the sound in the Details/Articulation I hear the sound I want, but when I draw those notes into the editor or move from the sustained crash note to the choked crash note, it doesn’t.
I’m going to try Shooties suggestion about the Edit Play Style in the EZD2 track.
Toontrack, if you’re looking in, this should be a lot easier than it is. For some people (like me) it’s disgustingly difficult. It should just be a matter of the right note on the right grid on the MIDI editor. Maybe that’s how easy it really is, but for some reason, it’s not working for me.

I figured it out!!
The problem is in the MAPPING!! I wanted to use crash cymbal 2 and in the EZD2 interface the note is named as D2 for the choked crash, but on my system (Cakewalk) it is actually D4. When I moved the MIDI note to D4 it choked the crash cymbal 2. So, now that I got this project squared away on how I want it, I can go back to some of the past projects and do the same.
Thanks all so much for your help.

I read your post too quickly Jon. I thought you were asking about velocity and not just commenting on it.
Good to hear John has it figured out.
