There is no option to create half bars. Only a full bar that you can then just shorten to a half bar.

If I have a half-bar gap that I then want to fill, maybe the answer is to copy and paste an existing half-bar into the gap

Half a bar would still be too restrictive and simplistic. We need to be able to cut bars at the very least on a single beat level. Anything else is just amateurish.

You can cut a chord on the Song Track to sub beat level when you zoom in.

The OP was asking about creating a new chord using the “Add Chord” button, and having it be something other than 1 bar.
