Hello, Love SD3 to death (kind of addicted to messing with it actually and constantly making/tweaking new kits), but so my question is, I’ve taken to taking all the kicks in the mic section (and any triggers on them) and routing them to bus 1, snares to bus 2, hi hat to bus 3, rack toms to 4,5,6, FL toms to 7,8, the rest past that, etc, then in the bus section taking bus 1 and sending it to output 3/4, bus2 to output 5/6, bus 3 to output 7/8, etc. and then loading my DAW of choice (happens to be Ableton), and making 11 or so audio channels (depending how many bus channels) and selecting SD3 as the input and first audio track as input 3/4, 2nd 5/6 and so on to mix the kit as I would a real kit in the DAW as separate channels.
then usually EQ from the bus channels in SD, and like I did in Ableton with the EQ I would VERY much like to set default settings for the EQ’s to shelve out below 50hz (as the only tracks i let have frequency real estate below 50hz are the kick and bass (and then i get volume for the bass mainly from a compressor, side chained to the kick with fast attack and release so hopefully it just ducks imperceivable when the kick hits so only one instrument/sound at a time gets frequency real estate below 50 hz which tends to keep the low end nice and clean so things are not fighting over the low frequencies and not going into the red/etc.
And like i did with my Ableton stock EQ’s i REALLY want to make the default standard parametric EQ in SD3 just start off by default on all instance of it as flat except for cut off below 50 hz so i don’t have to keep doing this on EVERY track, since ONLY the kick in this case would NOT be cut out below 50 hz and it would be a lot easier to ONLY remove that shelve out below 50 hz on that ONE track, than APPLY the cutting out below 50 hz on EVERY other track.
But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save that as a default, nor when I google it/pour through Youtube/etc.
Is there a way to do this? I assume yes, because in one video I saw a guy bring up an EQ and off the bat it had a frequency range cut out near the middle. If so how can I do this?
P.S. I know I can save those specific settings as a preset and just call it up every time but iI mean I just want it to BE the default EQ setting so I only have to change thsat for the kick and every other track when I call up an EQ it’s already shelved out and i can just start EQ’ing it from there since I already know I want to cut that out on everything but the kick.
Thanks!
Effect presets can’t be saved as defaults. You are best to post a feature request in the appropriate forum section.
the only workaround I can think of, albeit clunky, is to save a default project with your desired effects.

From what I can tell you have to save it as a user preset. I was thinking that if I did a “save as” and named it to default, that it might automatically load however not the case. When I went back I looked and I had a user preset called default. That being said you could make presets for your base your tums etc. This way at least you would have consistency by calling up the user presets.

Preaching to the choir on that one. I have a bunch of presets that I use for mixing. Helps drastically cut my mix time as far as drums go.

Jord,
If you save it as a user preset, would it not be available in all projects? Regardless of which library etc….
Cheers Ken

Hi Ken S,
User presets in the Mixer, whether it is Channel Presets or individual Effect Presets, can be recalled regardless of which Library is loaded.
I.e. if I find a Mixer Channel set up for a great Snare sound in a Preset in the Hansa Live Room Library, I can save it as a User Channel Preset and recall it on any other channel in any other library.

I was aware of that but what I was actually asking is if there was a way to save the settings like in this case, the equalizer to cut off below 50 Hz by default so that every time I called up an equalizer it by default, had 50 Hz cut out so that since I do that to almost every sound except for the kick all of them will come up at least at that starting point that I have to do every instance of the EQ or as I’m aware I can save and I do a default with the 50 Hz cut off but then have to select that preset every time. I was just looking for a way to make that a default so when I call up EQ it automatically is cutting off below 50 Hz. But I’m guessing just saving default preset that cuts off below 50 Hz is probably the next best thing.

Yes, for now it is not possible to save a User defined Default state for inserted effects. You wrote a feature request for this in the ‘Requests & Feedback’ section?
Anyways, if you insert an EQ on one mixer channel and select your own default preset, you do not need to do the same for each and every channel you wish to have it inserted on, you just Alt/Option + drag from the first one to copy to the next channel. Works faster that the inserting and selecting preset.
