Hi everyone,
Im having an issue where my Hi-Hat doesn’t register properly in Superior Drummer 3.
The video is showing me playing with my foot on the pedal. I then tried caliberation but it still doesnt register a closed hit.
I have attached a video and screenshot showing this below.
I would really appreciate any help at all.
Thanks

If the td17 only sends up to 89 then that is the range you will get 0-89 and nit 0-127 that you can’t change. Moving the calibration points around will still give you a decent playing range. You can’t however have full 127 range as the module is just not generating it.

Sorry but as John said above the stock TD17 preset is set at 89. So it looks like you’re stuck with that unless you change the value in SD3. You should check to see what velocity range your TD17 sends because if it’s the same as John’s TD12 you have to set the range to ‘high’ on the TD17 as per one of John’s posts above.
As to your other question you could try changing the velocity curve in SD3 OR mess with the sensitivity in the TD17 brain but not both at the same time.

The preset was at 127 but went down to 89 as soon as i calibrated the hi-hat as shown in the video.
It’s strange because I can see the Snare hiting at 127 in the recording in Ableton, so its just the hi-hat?
Is this usually the case with TD-17 and Superior Drummer 3, or is it a fault of my Drum kit?
Thanks
To the OP: Have you asked Roland about this? Seems like your issue is not with SD3 but the TD17 itself. It may well be endemic with that. Shame Roland doesn’t have a forum you could go to (unless you do Facebook). As I mentioned earlier download and install the free utility snoize. Run it standalone and play your TD17. It will tell you exactly what is going to the computer – note number, velocity, etc. That will tell you what the velocity the brain is sending.

No i haven’t, i have only recently bought SD3 and had issues like this, I havent experienced this with Addictive Drums in the past.
I’ll search for a Roland forum and support now.
I have attached a recording of me using Snoize playing the pads and cymbals as hard as I can (maybe mute the video when watching).
I noticed I can get to 127 on the Toms, Snare and Ride only.
This must be an issue with the Drum kit itself, which is strange as everything is on default settings to level the playing field.
Anyway, thanks everyone for your help and quick replies, much appreciated.
If anyone has any idea come to them as to what might fix this I would really appreciate it!
Yes it’s just the hi hat. And it’s not really a problem. The same restriction will also be the same in AD.

So is that normal for a Roland VH-10 hi-hat not to register a full MIDI velocity range of 0-127?
Or does this mean something is defective?
It is a problem as I currently cant register a closed hi-hat hit. Its’ really frustrating…

I’ve asked this question and you seem to have ignored it: have you tried changing the ‘closed/tight’ value in SD3? You can do that manually. I’d try that and not get hung up on not getting the full range. Also have you done the hihat setup as outlined on page 4 of the manual?

Hey, thanks for the reply. I know its possible to move the closed point up in Superior Drummer 3 but would that limit my dynamic range when playing?
Surely a Roland TD-17 when playing with Superior Drummer 3 should register 0-127 when playing a hi-hat?
I thought this would have been the normal range for a kit and software of this range.

You’ve completely missed that several people have said the max output from the TD17 for the hihat is 89. Again you really should get in touch with Roland to nail this down.

Hi,
to add to what the others posted, don’t confuse the CC range needed for the openness of the HH with the Velocity range.
If you can’t change the CC resolution to HIGH=0-127 in the module like I can in my TD-12, then the module itself has the range between 0-90 in the CC output and you either adjust the response curve for when each level of openness happens or you Calibrate the HH as you did for the max closed and max open positions, which should then translate the incoming CC to spread over the response curve.
When you are happy with the result, Save your preset.
BR,
John
