Hi everyone,
Im having an issue where my Hi-Hat doesn’t register properly in Superior Drummer 3.
The video is showing me playing with my foot on the pedal. I then tried caliberation but it still doesnt register a closed hit.
I have attached a video and screenshot showing this below.
I would really appreciate any help at all.
Thanks

Could you post a link that doesn’t require getting an email letting me know if my access was approved? I clicked the hyperlink in your Google Drive page and never got the email. The page had a message in the title bar saying ‘access denied’.
edit for additional: Tried Safari (I always use Firefox – can’t stand Safari) and was able to play the video. What are you using to trigger SD3?

Hi Jack,
I have made the link I shared public now so you should be able to view it. I would really appreciate any help at all.
Thanks
What ekit are you using? I don’t really want to download the video.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Hi,
I have uploaded the short video of me playing the hi-hat with my foot on the pedal. So its fully closed but not registering.
I then open the hi hat and put my foot on the pedal to show it doesn’t close fully in SD3.
Hi,
you didn’t answer Jack’s and Mark’s question about what you are using to trigger SD3?
I can see that you are using a modified Roland TD-17 MIDI Preset in the video, which I then assume means you have a TD-17?
I also see that the CC range received by SD3 is limited. In my TD-12 module, there is a setting I need to have on, for full HH open/close response: RESOLUTION:HIGH.
If I don’t have it set to HIGH, the range is limited to between 0-90.

…I actually think you can’t set the resolution in the TD-17, since the Factory TD-17 Preset in SD3 has ‘Tight’ happening at 89.

Oh sorry, yes I am using a TD-17 KVX and using the TD-17 preset in Superior Drummer.
I dont remember ever seeing an option to change the resolution in the module.
I am using a VH-10 Hi hat with this hi-hat stand: https://knightmusic.com/product/mapex-tornado-hi-hat-stand-h200tnd/
Its strange that I can’t close the hi hat fully and its only registering open hi hat hits when I record it.
Is this likely to be an issue with the electronic drum kit or module, or would it be within Superior Drummer?

Are you saying that you can’t physically fully close the hihat? I know the guy is talking about using a VH13 but I’d assume a VH10 would be similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN0qsbVgUyw

I can close the hi-hat physically but its not registering as closed in SD3.
The video I recorded was me hitting the hi hat with my foot on the pedal and it only goes as far as ”Open 1″ or “Open 2”, so I cant reach the “Closed” or “Tight” at all.
I had actually watched that video when trying to figure this out too!
I know you mentioned that you tried calibration in SD3 but have you tried changing the max value for closed/tight in SD3?

Have you tried the TD-17 MIDI Preset without changing anything?
Because what I was trying to say is that your module does not send 0-127, it sends 0-90. I can’t see any CC above 86-something.
In the TD-17 SD3 Factory MIDI Preset, ‘Tight’ is triggered at 89 but in your video ‘Closed’ and ‘Tight’ are altered; ‘Tight is clearly set to 124, which will not be triggered.
Either that or Calibrate ‘Fully Opened’ and ‘Closed Tight’, since the Min/Max range is set to 0 – 127. If you click the ‘Calibrate’ button Close fully, Open fully, Close fully then ‘Save’? If I do that with a limited range, the Open to Close stages are correctly translated when the Openness stages are set more like in the Default Preset.

Along the lines of what John is saying is something I usually tell people to do when having MIDI issues and that is to download/install a free MIDI utility called snoize (for Macs) or MIDIOX (for Windows). Run it standalone and it will tell you what your MIDI device is sending. This will give you a concrete idea of what the TD17 really is sending.
John: while I have your eyeballs I’ve been having a problem logging in here. I click on the link in the email notification I get about a reply here and I login. I click that and get sent to another page where I have to login again. And after that it doesn’t take me to the forum thread but the TT main page. I have to go to the email and reclick on the link to view the message. Been happening since like Saturday. FWIW I run Firefox (latest version) on a Mac.

OK, thanks, I’ll notify a colleague.

Hi guys,
Just to hopefully make things easier I have factory reset the TD-17 and chosen the TD-17 Preset and the Default SD3 Kit.
I have attached a screen recording of my issues after that.
I can calibrate the hi hat as shown in the video, but does this mean my dynamic range is lowered to 0-87 when it should range from 0-127?
I would prefer to have the full MIDI velocity range for realism.
Really appreciate your help guys.
The other thing, my two crash cymbals and Kick are a bit quieter now, should I raise the sensitivity within the TD-17 module first before playing with volumes in SD3?
Thanks
