I rented a Roland TD-11k E-Drum kit for my studio. Last night we recorded the drums using this kit for a song. I did not know at the time about setting the E-Drum to the appropriate manufacturer, so it was just set to “none”. The Hi Hat with this kit seemed to work fine until today when I decided to set it to Roland. Now with it set on Roland as the manufacturer, we cannot get a true closed hi hat sound. The closed hi hat now sounds slightly open. When it is set to none, the hi hat is fully closed when intended to be closed. It doesn’t matter which drum kit I use in EZD2; they all respond the same with this applied. So is this an incompatibility with the Roland E-Drums? Should I forget about setting it to Roland and just use it on none? Aren’t there certain advantages to having it set to the correct manufacturer? I have no choice but to leave it on none for the song we recorded last night because it needs a closed hi hat, and if I change it to Roland, we loose the close hat.
What gives?
The different presets are made to fit most of each brand’s kits. However, even Roland have some kits that differ – for example how the hi-hat work. Furthermore, the kit can be altered in the drum brain, e.g. MIDI notes can be changed etc. If None works with your kit, there’s nothing wrong with leaving it with None.
