Scott, I am relatively new to SD3 as well so if I’m telling you something you already know disregard. When you open the page that shows the drum set click once on the snare. If you look toward the top in the middle of the screen you’ll see a pulldown that allows you to change the snare only, sticks, brushes, etc. You can save this and it should show in the future.

One thing I do is separate the kick from the rest of the drum set making a separate kick track within the DAW. Then I’ll use a DAW EQ (yes, there is one within SD3 too but it has limitations) to hone in on the right tones for the set which will also move with the snare tone. I highly recommend placing the kick on it’s own track since it will require it’s own EQ / compression from the rest of the kit if you’re doing a complete song with bass / bass clef on a keyboard / etc. (low frequencies).

I am sure there a lot of other avenues that all work too but this is what I’ve learned and hope it’s helpful.

This is a good question and I’d like to hear a definitive answer as well.

I’m fairly experienced with SD2 and 3 but as far as I can see, there is no way to disable individual samples within an articulation’s sample pool, nor is there a way to select which one is played when round robin is disabled. I would love to have both options.

Bumping because I’m looking for the same answer. There’s a certain sample for a floor tom (I’m using the Pop Punk EZX inside of SD3 if it matters) that sounds way off as if the velocity is half of what is actually being triggered plus it sounds as if it has no attack, the high end frequencies are dampened, or possibly both. I’m running my DAW on a loop (so it’s the same note triggering it) and watching the MIDI monitor and when I hear it played I don’t see that the floor tom is triggering with a randomized velocity low enough to dictate such a sample so I’m not sure if it’s just an error or not. Either way, I’d like to be able to go in and just turn it off. I know Drumforge has the ability to turn off certain samples if you don’t like them, if that option could be added to SD3 it would be great

    Hi,

manual editing of the sample pool is not possible. What you can experiment with is to open the ‘Hit Variation’ Property Box and turn off ‘Randomize Hits’ and ‘Use Adjacent Layers’.
This way it will be easier to exclude a particular sample via the velocity.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I’d like to join the request of this feature. The ability to manually select which samples are loaded into the pool.

There’s a snare I really like, but there’s one sample that I’d like to remove as it stands out from the other samples (same articulation and velocity), but there’s no way to exclude this sample. Disabling “Randomize Hits” is out of the question as it would introduce machine-gunning, and disabling “Use Adjacent Layers” doesn’t help in this case. Adjusting the layer limits in the “Voice and Layers” box also doesn’t work in this case as it seems to be the first sample of the layer. Funnily enough, I found out that increasing the layer limits sometimes introduces other undesired samples.

To be fair, in my case this sample barely stands out in a raw kit without processing. But after heavy processing with compressors, eq, exciters, and reverb, this particular sample stands out from the rest quite a bit. It doesn’t really sound bad, just too different, and I wish I could exclude it.

Being able to customize the sample pool for each drum is a feature that would be much appreciated. Maybe we’ll get it in Superior Drummer 4? 🙏
