Hello and thanks for any responses!
I’ve been using EZ Drummer 2 for a little while now. Love it, so easy to use!
Never seen this before.
If I have a part recorded, say a kick snare for a couple measures done in one pass and then say add a high hat in a second pass..no problem doing this as long as I have a loop set up and do it all during one session if you will.
The problem comes when I try to add anything else in that section later. Say I go back to add another part within that looped section. Not only can I not hear the other parts once I engage record, say I add a tambourine, when I’m done recording that, the other parts are erased. Just like I had recorded over a guitar track. Never seen that happen with before. Usually I can layer new parts with MIDI and never disturb the previous parts.
BTW this is not in stand alone use, it’s in a track in my DAW. Hopefully I’ve explained this ok, I’m not real experienced.
Thank you
Hmmm, this is not limited to my drum parts. Just did a test with a Midi Piano part. Same thing, erasing over just like a vocal or guitar track.
So it must be something in my DAW. I use Pre Sonus Studio One if anyone has any thoughts.
I don’t use Presonus well enough to confirm. (in Pro Tools it is called “Midi Merge”) Take a look by the transport for tiny buttons “Record Mode Replace”.
From the manual ”
Record Mode Options
Replace and Overdub
When in the Replace recording mode, recording over any existing Instrument Part results in the new material being recorded to a new Event, which replaces that portion of the original Event. While recording, you do not hear the previously recorded Event playing back, as the purpose of this mode is to replace the existing material.
When Replace is disabled, you are in Overdub recording mode. In this mode, recording over any existing Instrument Part results in the newly recorded material being overdubbed, or added to, the existing material. While recording, you hear the previously recorded Event playing, along with the material currently being recorded, assuming that you are monitoring the Instrument Track.”

On the Studio One transport you will see the Record Mode Replace button. (left of the pre-roll selector). De-select it and your instrument MIDI will merge instead of replace. I’ve circle the option. You can also bring up the record panel (Shift-Option-R) and deselect replace.
