SD3 loads samples to ram and never streams from disk. Unless you have the setting that doesn’t load the whole kit I can’t see this being it. You would know if you had this setting. There is no reason I can think of that would increase toms only latency.

what I don’t get is you mention the toms fade and then you turn up the monitor and the come back for a while. This does not seem to describe latency at all. Latency is where the sound is late not quiet?

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

    Hi Mark,

It did happen again today. This time the snare though.

I had been playing for like 45 minutes of quite lively songs. Then, suddenly my snare didn’t sound at all when I hit it. Could this be RAM issue or sensor problem? After leaving it alone for 5 minutes, it came back up. The toms, on the other hand, were fine today.

    Thanks,

    AK

    Hi all,

Need another of your divine intervention…

I still can’t get the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 to output sounds into my mixer/speaker system. All this while I am using a monitor, thus separated from other instruments plugged into the mixer. And it sounds harsh… So I tried the Scarlett 2i4 to bring into my mixer/speaker system.

Is there any step-by-step setup in SD3 for Scarlett 2i4? I think I am missing some parts.

My setup was done following the diagram which I found in one of the posts here (see attached).

    1. I connected the DTX522 to Scarlett 2i4 using the USB-MIDI cable. Had to find a USB-A/B adapter since DTX502 only uses USB type B port (no MIDI ports). Yet the LED on the USB-MIDI cable never lit up. I think the adapter is broken.
    2. The MIDI ports went into the 2i4 MIDI ports with corresponding I/O channel.
    3. I connected the Scarlett 2i4 to SD3 (on Mac) using the USB cable.
    4. I connected the Scarlett output into my Yamaha MG10XU mixer using double jacks.
    5. I set the Audio Channel Input/Output in the Mac to the Scarlett 2i4.
    6. I set the MIDI to Scarlett 2i4 in SD3

    The outcome was as follows:

    1. I got no signal coming from DTX502 at all. The drum pics in SD3 was not triggered. Do I need to re-map again? I suspected the foul adapter was the culprit. I tried the cable on my keyboard and it worked. Will get another one tomorrow.
    2. Well, of course, no sound coming from my Mackey speakers at all.

Heck, I even tried plugging my drum from Mac into channel 1 of 2i4, nothing… nada…

What other setting did I miss?

    Thanks,

    AK

The midi out of the dtx should be plugged into the Scarlett not usb.

I see this as the main problem – the audio interface is not creating a midi device for you from usb anything.

Connect this usb from dtx to computer directly – and there would be midi ports to connect to sd3 to choose from – different than Focusrite interface ports.

What I could see the DTX 502 trigger module for this kit does only have usbtohost, this crap that Yamaha is leaning more on nowadays.

I would never purchase anything like that. You cannot have 5m or 10m usb cables, it just not reliable.

Proper din midi cables though, no problem.

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks!

Yes, I see this as the problem. I need to upgrade the module to the Yamaha DTX702, which has MIDI IO ports. This should solve my problem.

I can’t get the MIDI signal from the DTX502 using even the USB-MIDI cable.

I think USBtoHost doesn’t send any MIDI, which I find it strange because if I connect it to SD3 directly, it can trigger the sounds (thus, I was assuming it’s sending MIDI information).

    Hi guys,

I tried the following simply to get the SD3 sounds out from my speakers:

    1. I connected my DTX502 to SD3 in my Mac via USB for MIDI trigger, it works. The triggering happens.
    2. I connected my Mac to the Scarlett 2i4 via USB.
    3. I set the Focusrite as the output device in SD3 setting.
    4. I connected my Yamaha DBR10 active speaker to the Focusrite using audio jack from the output ports in the back of Focusrite. I even tried using the headphone plugged into the monitor port on the front of the Focusrite.
    5. NO SOUND coming out of my monitor whatsoever! I tried turning all the dials in the Focusrite, nothing!

What else did I miss? The setup all seems logical to me. Yet, no sound at all!

Where did I go wrong (again)? ugh it’s so frustrating!

How do we get the sounds out from SD3 in Mac into the speakers?

    Thanks,

    AK

One Focusrite interface I used, also had a balance knob on front panel(called input/playback on yours) that balance direct input signal and what comes out from interface. So turn that clockwise to playback all the way to be sure. And also try the 1-2/3-4 source switch – not sure what it does and volume on headphones up as well as Monitor knob.

Do the headphone thing first, then continue with speaker stuff – more things to think about.

Not familiar with Mac, so not sure what else could matter.
