HELP! Complex trills, rolls, and flams.

Hi. I’m into day 2 of my EZD2 Demo and while it’s a little daunting to someone that hasn’t used computer based recording before, I’m extremely impressed.
I’m currently trying to recreate a very complex drum track that I created years ago using two Alesis drum machines in tandem. The groove uses a lot of hi-hat rolls and tom flams, as well as little “nuance” pre rolls to some fills. How can I program these kind of things in using just the EZD2 interface? I don’t have a keyboard and the only MIDI controller I have -the Korg nanoPad series 1 – doesn’t seem to play well with EXD and is very non-intuitive in it’s ability to map things.

If I’m using the tap to find feature or even just recording using my mouse, are there modifier keyboard keys to allow for flams and rolls? Can I use the keyboard on my laptop to “play” the drums on screen while recording?
If it will help, I’ll include a link to the song I’m talking about (please excuse the rough miix – it’s an unfinished recording, and I want to redo it from scratch, so be gentile! ). You’ll probably only need to listen to the first few bars to get an idea of the groove before all the rest of the instruments come and things get a bit dizzying.

Thanks a bunch for any help you can offer to cracking this element of EZD2 for me. It will likely be the determining factor in whether I buy the upgrade from EZD Lite.

Can I use the keyboard on my laptop to “play” the drums on screen while recording?

This can be done if you use EZdrummer 2 in a host that has support for using the computer keyboard as a MIDI keyboard (I know that Logic has this feature, check the manual for your host software).

If you want to search for complex patterns you can either slow down the tempo in Tap2Find by turning down the Tempo knob (found on the bottom left side of the window in Tap2Find), or you can manually place all the MIDI notes in your host’s piano roll, then use that MIDI in Tap2Find (drag it to the area beneath the Tap2Find button).

While my demo has unfortunately expired, I did experiment with EZD2 in my DAW and while it is possible to do some of what I wanted, it required a lot of very non-intuitive tinkering and manual placement of midi notes. It was all very non-musical, which seems to be in direct contradiction to the whole point of EZD2’s ease of use.
I’d HIGHLY suggest that the next update to EZD2 (not a future version 3) add the ability to perform flams and rolls in an easy and intuitive way. I think this would be an amazingly useful feature and should’t be too hard to accomplish.

Hi, all.
I’m posting under my new account. Since starting this thread I’ve purchased EZD2 and have gone crazy taking advantage of the summer EZX sale, getting about 8 packs.
I have also taken to recreating the drum groove in the song above. At first I didn’t see how I’d be able to do it, but with a lot of VERY fine tweaking and putting together grooves and patterns almost completely from scratch using Tap2Find and a lot of splicing, copying, pasting, and the occasional augmentation of editing midi file fills (embellished and intensified with the Edit Play Style) I managed to get the groove I want.
I still intend to add a ton of percussion once I’m in Logic (using the Latin EZX on another track), but I’m pretty happy with this as a start. I think this is a testament to the power of EZD2.
