EZD is crashing when using the Hard Rock EZX pack I just purchased. This is both within my DAW (Reaper, fully updated) and in the stand-alone version. See two attachments.
I’m noticing it crashes when I slice up a groove and try to remove a hit of any kind. I double-click the goove to Edit Play Style, and it brings up all the hits in that groove. I isolate the kick drum, so it’s only showing me the kicks. Then I use the “split song block tool” (the scissors) and put cut on either side of the single kick I want to remove. Then I switch back to the “Default Arrow Tool” and select the small block that surrounds the single kick hit that I want to remove. I lower the amount knob from 1 to 0, and I receive the error message “Toontrack EZdrummer 2 has crashed” and it shows me a message of where the dump (.dmp) file is located.
I have done a lot of testing on this. It does not happen when I don’t use the split song block tool. Nor does it happen when I use any of the other EZX packs I’ve purchased (Alt Rock, Dream Pop, Post Rock, Rock Solid, Southern Soul).
But still happens when I try to use the split song block tool to remove snares or hi-hats, which means it’s not exclusive to the kicks. It still happens when I use ANY of the Mixer Presets (“original mix”, “Bob Rock”, or any of the “Toontrack” ones)… so it’s not exclusive to any of the mixer settings either. It also still happens regardless of if I have my MIDI controller plugged in or not (Akai MPK Mini II).
ALL of the Toontrack products I own are up to date. My DAW (Reaper) is up to date. I’m running Windows 7, and that is up to date as well. Here’s my system specs:
AMD Phenom II 2.8GHz 6-core processor.
16GB RAM
62-bit Windows 7 Operating system.
Any ideas?

We’ll take a look at this bug.
In the mean time, if you want to remove one instrument from a MIDI block, you can right click the block on the song track and select Remove Notes > Kick. You can also right click any instrument in Edit Play Style and select “Remove MIDI” to achieve the same thing…
Thank for the report!

Thank you for the work-around. Yes, that’s true, I can do that… but I wanted to remove one very specific note of the instrument, not all of them (as I’d have to rebuild them at that point). But either way, I’m glad it’s on your radar Are these types of errors common? I’ve never come across anything like this in EZD2… but then again, I’ve never purchased a brand-new EZX right when it came out.

No, these problems aren’t common – especially with software as EZdrummer 2, which has been out for a couple of years now. But sometimes bugs do occur, when users does something in a particular order, that hasn’t been reported before!

I had some time to try the above work-arounds, but each suggestion gives me the same results. EZDrummer 2 continues to crash when trying to remove midi using the Hard Rock EZX.
I sincerely hope this can be resolved quickly. As you know, the sound coming out of the kit is paramount when creating a groove. It’s very difficult to not be able to do any editing in the Hard Rock EZX.

Thanks for the feedback, we’ll investigate this further!
In the mean time, can you check if it does it crash both when you use the standalone EZdrummer 2, and when used in a DAW?

I just got confirmed from the coders that a bug caused EZdrummer 2 to crash if you go into Edit Play Style on a MIDI block that doesn’t have a kick in it. This bug will be fixed in the next update, hopefully soon!

You’re welcome. Yes, it crashes in both the Standalone EZdrummer 2 application and inside my DAW. I mentioned that in my initial explanation of the issue.
Glad to hear it’s being worked on; thank you. (Though just to note, there are kicks in the blocks I’m trying to edit. All I was trying to do was remove one single kick. And that’s how all of this started)

We have just released an update for the Hard Rock EZX that should solve this issue. You can download and install from the Product Manager.

Damn that was fast! Excellent, I’ll give it a try tonight. Thank you.

Looks like the issue has been fixed. I can get some more time with it this weekend, but I believe it’s all set. Thanks a ton!
