This is a clear bug: when playing legato lines or chords via midi keayboard there are constantly hanging notes that need to be stopped via GUI or repeating some note that could be touching the same string (has to be guessed since there is no forced sting selection)
Also the articulation selection via key switches is cumbersome and not working reliably, most of the competitor products also support velocity sensitive mapping of articulation e.g. damped for low velocities and slapped for high velocities – is this feature messing or somehow hidden?

Hi,
I’m running the latest Babyface Pro USB drivers driver_usb_win_1168.zip from the RME download page, the Roland RD700SX is out of maintenance but I had updated that regularly and did not experience any problems during past years.
But again this can not be root cause because
a) I can use ALL other DAWs and stand-alone hosts with other VST plugins without any such problems of hanging notes
b) for reference I just connected an Arturia Keystep 25 key controller (also running latest FW) using direct USB midi connection and guess what: the problem with hanging EZbass notes is exactly the same!
About “complex” notes: there is nothing special, I play fast legato phrases or use double-stop polyphony phrases (e.g. a tritone like a typical Jaco funk phrase), all of which can be easily digested by all other acoustic or electric bass plugins, whether run in the DAW or as standalone host.
Please refer to the Midi files I attached in one of my previous posts
Regards Markus
What I mean with “complex”, is that I wonder if you experience this with other simpler phrases as well, just so that it would be easier for us to replicate? Of course EZbass should be able to handle any kind of playing, no matter how difficult, but it’s easier for us to debug if we have a simple pattern where we know it happens every time.
It’s very good that you attached the midi files. But since if I record the Cubase midi from Cubase into EZbass I don’t experience your problem, I assume that the problem lies in the combination of the incoming midi and EZbass. Somehow EZbass misinterprets the recorded midi in some way that Cubase doesn’t.
Anyways, we’ll keep investigating further.

We have made some improvements for this issue. Hopefully next version of EZbass will behave better for you.

Thanked by: DonHi,
when will the new EZbass version with improvements for hanging notes be available?

Hi folks this thread has gone quiet, but I recently invested in EZbass and I am also experiencing hung notes in EZbass too on every MIDI bass track that I offer EZbass to play. So it would appear that the issues raised above have not been addressed in version 1.0.7 of EZBass. What I have found is that if I find a note that is hanging (it can be any note not specifically legatos), if I go in and edit that MIDI note duration by the tiniest amount, I can get rid of the hanging note. Note that the following note is already clearly separate from the first note. I am just shortening the preceding note by a minute amount and then EZbass does not hang the note but releases is properly.
We’ve found a bug that note offs could get missed when the incoming MIDI is not on MIDI channel 1. Maybe that can explain issues that some of you have been having.

When will a new version be released without hangin notes?
I’ve had the same issue for quite awhile. Hung notes, wrong notes, notes not triggering at all.
This occurs when the midi is in a Logic instrument track (Midi Channel 1), and EZB is being used as an instrument.
If I put different bass instrument on the same track, with the same midi, it plays as expected.
Because of this, I can’t use EZBass as a sound module. The errors are too numerous.
I’m hoping this gets fixed soon!

EZbass version: 1.0.7
Operating system: macOS Mojave (10.14)
Please select “Open Event List” from Logic’s “Window” menu. In the Ch column, does it say “1” everywhere?

Hi guys I raised a formal ticket with toontrack on this a while back. Where we got to was that pitch bend events in bass midi using EZBass in Logic Pro X was causing stuck notes. Interestingly, if you play the very same MIDI in EZBass in standalone mode the issue goes away. Programmers have this new insight and I’m told I’ll get an update to the ticket soon. Can I urge everyone to raise a formal ticket with toontrack to escalate this issue. It is very real and frankly it is dragging on in terms of a fix which makes me wonder if it is a very serious issue. As it seems to be plugin behaviour rather than standalone app behaviour, perhaps this is involving Apple Logic Pro X devs too in terms of diagnosis and fix? Anyway, let’s get those tickets raised!…

Hi, I just looked at your ticket and examined the MIDI file you had sent. It has everything in MIDI channel 2. Please try changing it to 1 in the Event List window in Logic.

I thought it was Ch. 1, but it was Ch. 4. Changing it to channel 1 seems to have fixed the problems. I’ll report back if the problems recur. Thank you!
Olof, thanks but this is not the issue at all. If you can pick up the specific ticket #(124064) and subsequent e-mails it should become clear.
The issue is caused by pitch bend data NOT the presence of MIDI channel set to 2 in the events list. I can confirm this finding in two ways:
It only manifests with the plugin not in standalone mode.
I notice that more recent threads do not contain my ticket reference so please may I ask that the ticket stays open (i’m hoping that it has not been closed, because it really is not closed.
Thanks in anticipation. I look forward to hearing further from you. PDF of relevant mail message attached.

With reference to your reply January 18, 2021 at 13:26. Please see my note above Olof as well as this.
My experiments implicate pitch bend data. I’m not challenging that you have found that with settings other than Channel 1 being present in the event list causing note off events to be missed.
What I’m saying is that streams of pitch bend data also appear to be able to cause note off events to be ignored in the DAW but not the standalone player. Hope that helps and thanks for sticking with this issue.
Bruce, if you change the channel of all events to 1, it plays okay even with pitch bend data. The channel bug only occurs when there are multiple events at the same time, that’s why you only experienced it where there is pitch bend data together with normal notes.
Anyhow, this will be fixed in the next update – your unmodified MIDI file plays fine in the current beta version. It will also fix that notes sometimes keep ringing when you press stop in Logic.
