I use EZDrummer with GarageBand (OSX 10.5). I want to create my own drum sequences instead of just looping in the presets. I don’t have a midi keyboard so how do I do either of these:
1. Edit the preset midi files to create new beats. In GB I can view each EZD midi file and even move around individual notes (ex: from a snare to a tom) but I can’t draw in new notes/add additional sounds. Am I missing an edit tool in GB?
2) Manually create a drum arrangement from scratch. Past recording softwares I’ve used had a “drum map” or a grid where I click in boxes where I want the drum sounds to go at which time measures. I can create the entire drum squence before i start recording. Obviously, this is different from recording the beats live with midi keyboard and EZD as the sound output.
Any help is appreciated. I also just acquired Digital Performer but don’t know how to use it yet.
1. Yes – in the MIDI edit window, if you hold down the control key, you’ll see the cursor becomes a pencil. While holding down the control key, click anywhere on the “piano roll” in the MIDI edit window to draw a note. You can change the velocity and duration (and pitch, etc) of notes at the left – notes will become green when selected. You can also draw in automation.
2. Sounds like you’re talking about a step sequencer, like on an old school drum machine. GB doesn’t have anything like that.
Now I can't blame the drummer.
