Fixing Imported MIDI Grooves, Need Suggestions

I have some GM mapped grooves, many of which SD3 sees as 100+ bars long when they are actually 1-8 bars. I’d like to fix them.

My initial plan was to drag them to the grid, cut the extra bars and replace the original file with. But SD3 is going to change the mapping, so putting them back where they were seems not to be an option.

Any thoughts on how to accomplish this, or will I need to put these in my user grooves folder with default mapping? It’s a series of grooves, so ideally I’d like to keep them together.

If you drag the files straight from the operative system’s Finder/Explorer to the song track, cut the MIDI and drag it back, does that work?

After you have done the dragging, you need to right click User MIDI folder to sync file changes…

As usual, some of the terminology is going over my head. Operative system’s finder/explorer? I’m dragging from SD3’s groove tab. I’ve previously synced these grooves so they show up there.

Help me understand where you’re saying to drag them from and back to please.

I do understanding needing to sync afterwards.

He’s asking how you got the grooves into SD3. Maybe there’s something in the GM grooves that aren’t complying with the GM standard which could be causing SD3 to barf.

I forget exactly how, and without the terminology, I’m having trouble finding it in the manual. But it was something to the effect of directing SD3 to the locations where the MIDI was already stored and picking the appropriate mapping for each group; Abbey Road Series, Studio Drummer, BFD 1.5 and some Loop Loft (GM) stuff I had.

I misspoke as the BFD MIDI is not GM and resulted in the most misrepresented loop lengths. But the Loop Loft files produced quite a few as well and are the files I’m interested in fixing, at least initially.

I’ve added these files to Addictive Drums 2 in a similar fashion (not the BFD files yet). Though there were a handful with a similar issue, it was always just an extra bar, and a very small fraction of grooves had this problem.

What kind of results do you get if you drag one of the offending MIDI grooves from the Finder (IIRC you’re on a Mac?) into SD3?

Found it. I added the grooves via:

“Add a Linked folder of 3rd party MIDI files to the Folder Browser section of the Grooves tab.
Adding linked folders to the Folder Browser is done by clicking the Menu > Folders > Add Linked
Folder. You will then navigate to the folder on your computer.”

And Finder = file location on my Mac. Ha! I was thinking Toontrack terminology. No, I haven’t tried dragging directly from there. I will try that once back in the studio in a few hours and report back.

The same grooves dragged from the finder have all the extra bars.

I am hoping for some additional feedback. Regardless of where the files are dragged from, the extra bars are there. I imagine the problem is SD3’s interpretation of the file.
