Still playing… just love the sound.. the presets are done so well that its just tweaks for me to lock in exactly what I need… This SdX just sits right without a lot of tricks and plugins… that’s just cherries… just me though…

Its just so cool. I just did two Black Sabbath songs ( badly 🙂 ) using the “Live Room – Storm Trooper – If you Want More Weight kit” haha. Nice and heavy and more or less just fitted right in 🙂
I never said you did lol 😉
Cool, then we can be agree that you started it. 😛
…but now you mention it ;), I get a much better sound from LUNA than I get from Logic. Lovely and warm analog and tape, especially through the API console and API Summing.
If you’re not getting that kind of result out of Logic, then Logic is not the issue. I’ve been doing the analog warmth thing in Logic long before using UAD plug-ins. One of the main reasons I got an Apollo was because my MOTU 24I/O died. The Studer A800 was also more convenient since I didn’t have to piece the tape characteristics together with 3 different plug-ins. The real game changer for me was recording with Unison plug-ins and printing my recording chain (including the Studer).
But like I said, the Godfather, and a lot of the other kits in Fields of Rock, don’t really need anything other than levels, they are that good!
While I can agree that the kits are mix ready, they are not record ready. They still have some midrange frequency nastiness that does take away from a drum due to mid buildup and masking. Yes, the drums sound good dropping them in a mix. However they, along with the rest of the mix, sound a lot better when you carve out that nastiness in the mids.

OK, so I might have went a bit over the top testing this, but I love it. the first 32 songs here, wanted to test it across a few bands:
and please excuse my rubbish drumming 🙂 …they were all done with the basic Field of Rock Godfather Default preset, straight out of the box. Music on one track, SD3 on another.
I love the classic sound of this kit and don’t mess with its sound at all.

Thanked by: Damian BluntBought it and downloaded it in 35mins after it was made live on their site.
Yes, it is one of the best yet for me.

Wow! You downloaded Fields of Rock in 35 minutes? You must have an amazingly fast Internet connection.
Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area, and the top Internet speed I can get is about 10 MB/s –
Which relates to 48 HOURS download time. I literally have to wait the whole weekend before I can even use it.
I don’t really have a point except to complain about my poor Internet speed. I like living in the country, but this is one of the drawbacks.
I can’t wait to check it out. I’m especially excited about the rototoms and the percussion instruments. That’s why I like Rooms of Hansa so much.

I do, just had super fast plus fibre installed 😉
Meh, I survived the 11 hours to get Fields of Rock, Rooms of Hansa, and Death & Destruction and install them. Mere labour pains in comparison to now having even more great drum libraries to work with.

After 48 hours of downloading, I finally got Fields of Rock installed. As everyone else has commented….fantastic set of drums, with ready to play presets.
My only gripe is I wish they included more MIDI grooves with the product, especially for the “Hand Percussion” category. Just one set of Congo Grooves and one set of Bongo Grooves. With all those percussion instruments in the set it would have been nice to include some MIDI grooves that utilized more of them together. (However I discovered that if you use other MIDI grooves, like Coach House-Stone grooves, with the Percussion set you can come up with some interesting percussion beats.)
But other than that, I’m extremely happy with the purchase….just as great (or better) as the Rooms of Hansa, IMHO.
Good or better as far as I go, only works in the context of this song that I am working on. On some songs Hansa fits best and on others SDXs like Indiependent fit the job.
That being said, I plugged in the Modern Studio kit in a song that I was working on and combined with the rhythm guitar, it really pushed the song forward. Loved the energy it added. The mix I did for that kit might just be one of my go to base presets.

It’s great to finally see a kit with 5 rack toms, but do any of the MIDI grooves utilize them all?
You can always customize any groove in various ways to utilize the toms (or any kit piece for that matter).

I have new york studios 1-3, reggae, gospel, pop-punk, hansa, in the pocket, death/darkness, and fields of rock.
Fields of rock is so amazing, the articulations on the snare, especially the VK cast bronze in the live room are real game-changers, just totally insane. Its as close to playing a real snare as I’ve ever had, the tones on the snare as you move from the cleaner dry center hit to that beautiful ring towards the rim are just phenomenal. It makes me play the snare so much better I really play and get a world of tones from it my band and I are just astounded that were hearing edrums. The presets in the live room and the dry room are so good right out of the box I just can’t speak highly enough about this. Volumes are also higher and its pretty much the only expansion you need (although the sidestick from in the pocket, Ludwig Supraphonic is my goto. That sidestick is worth the expansion alone in my opinion)
Right on Toontrack, it keeps getting better and better but then this was just totally mind blowing. If this is where expansions are heading just take my money now please.
