I was recently using the Number 1 Hits EZX expansion in EZ Drummer 3, and had a problem that the claps had a huge amount of reverb, while the shaker was relatively dry. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the level of reverb send per kit piece. And it is also not possible to route individual kit pieces to different mixer channels – for example I would have liked to routed the claps to the snare mixer channel instead, as they were layered with the snare anyway, which would have allowed me to process the shaker independently.
Fixing it required me to solo my shaker MIDI and bounce down to audio, so I could treat it separately in my DAW, but that felt like a heavy-handed workaround.
Would be great if when we select a kit piece as well as adjusting its volume and tuning, we could choose the level of FX sends, and the mixer channel it was routed to. It would be a very big help especially for expansions like Number 1 hits to make it much easier to add additional fx to specific kit pieces in the DAW later.
I would cut and paste the shaker into its own midi track and reverb it there.
The EZXs vary greatly regarding how much control they allow, and – crucially – they vary within different mixes of the same library. In the case of No 1 hits, the most control is offered in the Original Mix layout, and there’s not much doubling there. In Superior Drummer, it is possible to re-route everything.
The other thing about No1 hits is that by design some of the sounds have baked in effects – the idea is to have oven ready processed sounds.
