When you say it doesn’t recognize it, do you mean that you can’t see it is a MIDI input option in EZKeys standalone? Or, you can select it, but it doesn’t work? If you can’t see it as an option in EZKeys standalone, is any other software (a host) able to enumerate it?

I assume you’re not using a host, because it would then be the host’s job to enumerate MIDI inputs, and not EZKeys as a plug-in.

    My bad.
In Stand Alone mode my keyboard will not be recognized in the MIDI input section of EZKeys. Logic pro recognizes my keyboard.

okay, so after some tinkering, here is something i found out.

if i turn on my keyboard and open EZKEYS WITHOUT turning on my presonus firebox, i can use the keyboard through the built-in speakers. But, if i want to use my monitors, which require me to use the Presonus firebox, i must 1)plug in keyboard 2) open EZKEYS 3) Plug in Firebox 4) shut down EZKEYS 5) Open EZKeys. 6) change MIDI settings… any other method will not yield success.

see above. typically speaking, i would always plug in the monitors/firebox first. which is why i could not get EZKEYS to recognize my keyboard. Only when done via the way above, in that exact order, does it yield the result i need in stand-alone mode.

Sorry I’m going to have more questions than answers at first….. so I’ll try and get them altogether…
Are you connecting your keyboard directly to the iMac or through a hub?
When you have the keyboard and interface plugged into your iMac, power the interface up, then the iMac the keyboard does not show up in AMS?
Is there anything else connected to the Firewire port? (This shouldn’t be a problem… but I thought I’d ask.. I have 3 disk drives and an interface hanging off one FW port, and the order I put them in REALLY matters)….

    1) keyboard plugged in iMac
    2) to get the keyboard to show up in EZKEYS MIDI settings, i must turn on hardware (keyboard), open the Stand ALone PLayer (SAP) , turn on interface, close SAP and re-open it. If the SAP is open and both hard-wares are powered, only the interface will show up – after a minute.
3)no, only the keyboard is in the FW port.

Do the keyboard and interface both show up in AMS (Mac OSX Audio Midi Setup) when you power up the iMac with both of them plugged in?

Audio Midi Setup is under Applications > Utilities

When you say Standalone Player you mean EZKeys in standalone mode, yes?

the keyboard, does not show up in audio midi settings, the presonus does. well, the keyboard could show up. in AMS i have “presonus firebox”; “built-in microphone”; “built-in input”; “built-in output” keep in mind this is WHILE the keyboard is on AND playing the SAP (which is to say YES to your last question).

actually, when i view the MIDI window in AMS, not just the audio screen, the keyboard is in there.

Sorry, just so I’m clear on this…. you turn on the firebox and then turn on the iMac (with the evolution plugged in)…. after everything is initialized. You can go into AMS and the firebox displays as an audio interface, and it’s selected as the active audio interface, and the evolution displays as a MIDI device (in the MIDI layout window). But at this point you can not select the Evolution as MIDI device in EZKeys running in standalone mode (with no other software running). So far this is correct, yes? (Trying to determine a sequence and state of things)

OK, to try to clarify the process, the EZkeys host only scans for MIDI devices at startup, and therefore your device has to be ‘visible’ by CoreMIDI before you fire it up. I can tell you that the forthcoming update will have a ‘rescan’ feature, but I can’t give you an ETA for it… but that might help your situation when it is released.

good. the RE-Scan feature should fix that. seems silly to have to open the program then shut it down every thyme. 😉
