I’ve got EZdrummer 2 with modern, vintage, pop/rock and jazz kits. I like EZdrummer, but I find that the kits I’ve got are often too heavy for my style of music. I have quite wide ranging tastes (Buzzcocks, The Only Ones, Duke Ellington, Stephen Stills, Booker T, Small Faces) and would say that I prefer ‘natural’ sounding drums. I don’t like electronic sounds.
I’m thinking of getting an EZX expansion pack to fill the gap. Which would you recommend for my needs?
Thanks
Rex
My preferences sound more or less along the lines of yours.
I always always always reduce the velocity by quite a bit on each clip. It’s a bit tricky making sure that you’re grabbing the clip in the reduced velocity. When I’m previewing I set it to about -35–50 and make sure that what I grab it at that velocity. This makes an enormous difference. I’ll hear a pattern I like, but it’s all BOOM BOOM BOOM. I reduce the velocity and always think “well, that’s more like it.”
I want Charlie Watts, not John Bonham. Without reducing the velocity, it seems like everything is John Bonham.
I really don’t think you need additional kits, at least till you try this idea.
I have EZD2 with Vintage Rock, Latin Percussion, Reggae, and Hip-Hop EZXs plus about 15 MIDI packs.

Thanked by: Richard LitsonOK, that’s useful, David. I’ve been thinking of velocity as being the same thing as volume, and I suppose it’s not. I’ll have a play with that.
I find that, generally, the hi-hat and ride cymbal are really nice as they are. It’s the snare and kick that I need to tone down. The kick makes me think I’ve invited an elephant into the room.
Thanks for that.
