Hi Scott, maybe you can help than it is not necessary for me to sell it.
It is not possible for me to use EZ Drummer + LPercussion together in one Cubase project. A usual project is: 8 Audio tracks with effect plugins, 8 Midi Tracks uses e.g. Halion one, Halion SE, Kontakt4. When I open one instance of the EZ Drummer it works but I cannot open more other VSt Instruments. If I open EZ Drummer + LP Percussion in a second instance, Cubase crashes with runtime error; I heard that this is a problem with EZ Drummer ´cause the software needs so much RAM memory, that there is no much place for other VSts.
My system is XP SP3, Dual Core, 4GB; I tested it with Cubase 5 and Cubase 6 – same problem.
Runtime errors are almost always caused by running out of RAM.
You have 4GB in your system, but you are limited to about 1.5GB when using a 32-bit host (XP) and Cubase.
My guess is that you are hitting that 1.5GB limit when using those samplers together with EZdrummer. As a test, just load EZdrummer + LP EZX in an empty project and see if you crash.
You may need to adjust your workflow when using so many samplers at one time. Look into using the Freeze option in Cubase or just bouncing some samplers to audio files to free up RAM.
BTW, I use XP on my studio rig. I use Kontakt4, Superior Drummer, EZdrummer, etc. but I need to freeze/bounce tracks to keep the sessions rolling.

1) Why is the limit at 1.5 G when I have 4GB? How could I expand this 1.5 GB?
2) in a absolut empty Cubase project I can load 4 instances of EZ Mix; at the 5th instance the progress bar will stop at half loading by app. 1,2 GB. Cubase crashes after a while…
3) I cannot/will not adjust my worflow due to the problems which only one software makes. I work with Cubase many years, and sometimes I have projets where I use 30 tracks, more than 15 instances from other VST intrumentes plus many effect plug-ins as well. I had never the problem that Cubase crashes. It is also laborious to work with the freeze function. ´cause it needs time and space. And what will happen if I must un-freeze a track for doing changes? If I use EZ Drummer Cubase will crash after un-freeze ….

That is the RAM limit running a 32-bit OS and Cubase. You would need to update your OS to Windows 7 64-bit to access your full 4GB of RAM.

I thought we were talking about EZdrummer and not EZmix. Please clarify. Depending on what else is running in the background (VP, etc.) 1.2 GB of RAM seems normal for your OS/DAW.

Well, since Toontrack samplers load samples entirely into RAM, you may not have experienced RAM caused crashes until now. Some samplers use disc streaming technology that don’t load as much into RAM.
Whether or not you want to use the freeze function is up to you. It’s been a part of my workflow using XP/Cubase for years. I’ve happily used Toontrack samplers plus Kontackt, Trilogy, Miroslav Philharmonik, Ivory, and other samplers in my studio without these type of crashes due to my use of freezing/bouncing. I end up freezing almost all samplers in my projects as I go so there is almost no RAM hit at all. If I to then need to ‘unfreeze’ something, there will be plenty of RAM available on my P4, 3gHz, 2GB RAM system.
Again, it would be up to you whether using the freeze function will hamper your workflow more than a crashing DAW.

Hi Scott, thanks for your answers.
Sorry, of course I mean EZ Drummer. I ´ve been playing for long with the idea to upgrade to Windows7 – maybe now its the time….
BTW: still waiting of the answer of an other issue in “pre-sales EZ Mix” regarding preset lists; maybe you can give me an answer soon?
Thanks
Christian
