Hello,
I swear this just started happening. EzDrummer 3 won’t play back during the song unless I have the FX window open. It will playback if I have the track armed but if you close the drum window, it’s turns off again. You can have the song playing and no drums will be audible and once you open the FX window for the drum track, the playback will resume. I’ve never had to leave the drum window open in order to hear the playback before.
This will also be the case when rendering. If I don’t have the drum window open, you won’t hear the drums on the rendered file. This doesn’t happen to any other VST3i instruments I have on Reaper.
EZD3 is 64bit.
Have you tested this is a new fresh Reaper session?

I just started a new project. It still does it with a new project. As soon as I click on the X to close the window, the playback is gone. If I arm the track, it will play again.
If this happens with non-toontrack plugins as well, you may want to take it up with a Reaper community. If it only happens with TT products, hopefully someone will chime in.

It only happens with EZdrummer 3. I might try uninstalling reaper and reinstalling. It all started happening the same time I installed some free VST3i VI’s from Native Instrument. I wonder if some settings got messed with.
By resetting Reaper to it’s factory settings, I was able to fix the issue. I must have caused some issues when I set up my M-audio keyboard for midi somehow. Now I have to get that keyboard going again. Hopefully I don’t make the same mistake.
FWIW, I can run Reaper 7.05 here without having the EZdrummer 3 window open, both during regular play and Bounce, so it must be some local setting.
ATM, I have no suggestions regarding Reaper Preferences, I didn’t find anything that should affect your setup this way. Please report back if you find anything out on the Cockos Forum.

John

Thanked by: jasonroysawyerI have it figure out and it’s really frustrating. In the Preferences under playback, I had checked the box “Run FX when stopped” This was because my other midi instruments like piano was ringing out after the notes has stopped. But, unfortunately, this also makes it so ezdrummer 3 won’t playback unless the FX window is open.
So at the moment, if I want to use midi keyboards, I have to leave the ezdrummer 3 FX window open or have my piano notes continually ring.
