EZDrummer 3 – Popping sound when exporting AIFF ohh WAVE in Logic

I use ED3 to create drum loops for live performances.

After upgrading my Mac to OS 13.1 a “popping” sound appears at the start of every loop when exporting as AIFF or WAVE.
It is slightly noticeable but since it is looped it comes back every 8th bar and you hear it clearly.

I have a MacBook 2021/M1 Max/ 32 GB ram/2TB so CPU etc is not the problem.
I’ve upgraded to OS 13.2 – No solution.
I have an older iMac with OS 12.6.2 and it works fine – no popping sound. (Not upgrading that one!).

I have tried to uninstall ED3 and Logic Pro, changing the Bit depth etc etc. but the problem is still there.
I’ve found out that it is the ED3 Main room/Michael Ilbert/Studio Basic/14×22″ C&C Player Date/ Ch 1, Kick in Mixer channel/ that is causing the problem. Turning the volume down on Ch1 just changes the frequency of the popping sound – it is still there.

This is so frustrating after finally found a drum sound that I want to go with and a work flow that suits my needs.

Any ideas?

Sounds like Apple may have introduced a CoreAudio issue into their latest update of Ventura. How are you exporting the audio?

Hi Jord,

I normally export the loops as separate tracks in Logic Pro:
File/Export/1 track as audio file/Cyckle range only/AIFF/16 Bit
Or: command+ E

When I export a loop with a shaker there is no popping – only when a kick drum is at the start of the beat/loop.
I’ve read about issues with the MacBook Pro and CoreAudio.

Hi,

if you have a silent bar in the beginning of your exported audio, do you get that pop? Exporting from the EZD3 Track Menu (MIDI will have to be on the EZD3 Song Track) does not produce the same result, I take it?

Hi,

I exported a WAVE file in ED3 with a silent first beat (and with a beat) – no popping sound.
But ED3 adds a silent tail in the WAVE-file and not a perfect loop.

When I open the WAVE file in logic to adjust the loop, and export it as an AIFF-file (to be able to adjust the tempo in a live situation) or WAVE-file the popping is back.

So the problem is in the Apples Core Audio?

Is it possible to export AIFF-files in ED3 with a “perfect loop”?

Hi, I quit the CoreAudiod in the Activity Monitor – and the popping is gone.
If the popping starts again, I just quit the CoreAudiod and I guess it is a work around that I can accept.
