Hi, I use Mixcraft 8, EZD2 and Focusrite 2i2. When I open EZD in Mixcraft, EZD shows ”audio engine inactive, check you audio device” in the bottum right corner. Thanks

So since February 2019 until almost December and Toontrack has nothing to say about this?, we all use different interfaces, DAWS and even operating systems, which points quite clearly to the common factor, if EZD needs an update in order to fix this t has to be done and needs to be done now. Almost a year with the same error it’s ridiculous.

EZdrummer version: 2.1.8
Operating system: Windows 10
We need to sort out what’s happening here so we can see if there’s a bug in EZdrummer 2.
Does the audio disappear when the “AUDIO ENGINE INACTIVE” is shown?
If the audio disappears, does it only happen with EZdrummer 2, no other plugins?

I’m having the same issue in Cubase. As soon as I add EZDrummer as an instument track, there is no sound and it says “audio engine inactive.” When I click on the various drums there are no sounds, nothing happens at all, it’s pretty much frozen. I’m only having this issue with EZdrummer 2, no other plugins.

What audio interface, and drivers, are you using?

Zoom R8 and ASIO. Big fan of EZdrummer by the way.. just not enjoying these issues.

Same here, I use two different interfaces not at the same time, Behringer UMC202HD and Helix LT when I record guitar
I have the same issue in Reaper, while other instruments such as SSD 5 Free work. It does however work in Garage Band, but that is a very limited DAW. Hopefully there will be a solution soon.
I am having the same issue with Superior Drummer 3 in Reaper.
I am having the same issue using the following:
Windows 10 PC with 16GB RAM / i7 CPU
Running Cubase 10
Tascam 16×08 audio interface
Steinberg UR12 (that’s the name of the interface, not a personal insult…lol)
Alessis Nitro Turbo Electronic drum kit – connected to PC with either USB 2, cable. or to the Tascam Audio interface.
I get the drop out, every now and then when playing the electronic drums
its like a MIDI issue that occurs at a timed interval
one min i am playing the drums and all sounds good, then the audio drops out for a couple of seconds
then I get a build up of drum fills i guess triggered by the midi data that is caught up by the USB to midi protocol dropping out
all really confusing and not great, as ideally i want to jam with other people
and if the drums drop out for a few seconds and then creates a strange collection of unpredictable hits
that will probably throw our timing out a bit….
or mess our heads up
you know
anyway
would appreciate the help
i will try adjusting the buffer
cheers
Hello
I have returned after trying the fix that I thought would work.
To tell those frustrated out there, and the Toon Track support, that the problem with my particular system
was not that I was using 2 interfaces, nor under spec pc / drums.
But in my particular case, the problem appears to be caused by the buffer size. which I changed to 128 bytes.
which now appears to allow the system to work with out the error or audio drop out.
For Cubase users, I wonder if going to >
studio setup > VST Audio System >
AND THEN unchecking “Adjust for record latency” box as well
may help, but this latter recommendation is purely a guess more than anything
otherwise I hope this helps
all the best

Thanked by: Johnso, still no resolution to this.. I have two different windows 7 64-bit machines running Cubase 8.5, 9.5 and 10, and EZD2 version 2.1.8 runs absolutely fine in 8.5 and 9.5, yet in 10, it still gives this audio drive inactive error. sometimes if you leave it on the mixer page it doesn’t give the error.
another thing worth adding is, even if I left click on ANY part of the Cubase 10 project window, and I mean anywhere, it gives the error. Audio drop outs do occur still.
A possibe (and I mean possible) workaround, maybe this : set the Song Creator to Loop and press play. I no longer get the audio drop out error. which clearly points to the plugin being to blame here.
I switched over from using B**2 and 3 back in 2015 to Toontrack products, and use their EZKeys Grand Piano plugin constantly too. As a full time backing track creator and writer, I rely on these products. I did think it was because I was still on win 7-64, or that it may still be a windows issue full stop, but Mac users are saying it is happening on their machines, running Cubase 10, as well as windows 10 users.
I have submitted screenshots detailing the problem as far back as last June (2019) and clearly, it seems as though the dev guys have at least been told about this problem, but for now, I’m just having to use it and ignore the drop outs as I switch track lanes in Cubase 10, or just use an earlier version.
the only thing I haven’t yet tried, is rolling back to an earlier plugin version. To be honest, I don’t see why ToonTrack don’t just leave the program alone, and only release bug fixes.. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

**Update:
The 4 main components here, are
1 – Sound card and drivers, in my case Steinberg UR22 and UR824
2 – The DAW, Cubase 8.5, 9.5, and 10.
3 – EZD2 plugin. The standalone version does not give me any issue.
4 – The OS. Windows 7 – 64-bit.
This morning, I had some time to test this all out, and try and find a workaround.
I rolled back EZD2 to version 2.0.2 – It works absolutely fine, although I do keep getting annoying
“this product is not up to date” and issues with messages saying, “not able to update sound packs” etc….
I also, rolled back my Yamaha sound card driver (UR 824 and UR22 sound cards in each machine) from 1.10.4 back to 1.7.3 , which didn’t do anything.
So if you are having issues, my suggestion would be to roll back, uninstall/remove the latest version of EZD2, and put on 2.0.2.
I’m convinced the OS, and DAW and Sound Card Drivers are not to blame in this instance. Therefore, my suspicion, at this point in time, points firmly to the EZD2 Plugin.
Come on Toontrack, hurry up and fix this annoying bug!
Hope this helps some of you out there.

Audio engine inactive
Check your audio device
Hello
just a quick update. i have to say that i have continued to use EZ Drummer 2 over the past few weeks.
And it is fairly stable using Windows 10, Cubase 10, ASIO4ALL driver that works by combining other hardware drivers (Tascam and Steinberg). One audio interface in makeshift control room, one audio interface in the isolation booth.
Have reduced the buffer to minimum as possible. as low as 64 or as much as 256. on a pc that runs i7 CPU and 16GB ram.Plugging an old yamaha electronic drum kit to the computer via a simple 1 in 1 out MIDI interface made my M-Audio.
When recording, most the time its OK, however, periodically, i do appear to get some audio drop out, a short build up of midi notes, then all the built up midi notes dump on the MIDI input at the same time which causes an negative audible effect.
but after that, is ok.
Now, i noticed that sometimes this MIDI error occurs because of the way that Cubase poor way of dealing with MIDI during the end of a loop record process, when cubase is in cycle record. Which is understandable, as it is common to get hanging notes when the DAW moves in the timeline from the end to the start of a loop.
However, i was getting the effect at other times as well, and it appears to occur periodically, so i would suggest that this error is related to some process in Cubase that is associated with a period scheduled and regular process.
Perhaps I shall try an experiment at some point, setting up a project to record at 60 bpm and allow the project to record for an hour. And once done, i could then analyse the frequency of errors to see if there is any pattern to the errors that would help the programmers work out the cause.
Have the same problem . I use EZ drummer 2 in Harrison Mixbus , together with SD 2 and EZ keys Mellotoon . All on a Mac mini 2018 6core and a Focusrite Scarlet 18/20 . EZ drummer shows the Audio Engine in active message , if I click on the drums in the GUI there’s sound but when I try to play back a sample in the library there’s nothing there . Other Toontrack products work just fine , only EZ2 has this problem since a few months , it worked fine before .
