Hi, I use Mixcraft 8, EZD2 and Focusrite 2i2. When I open EZD in Mixcraft, EZD shows ”audio engine inactive, check you audio device” in the bottum right corner. Thanks
Hi,
if you hit play in Mixcraft, this message goes away, right?
I suspect there is an option in Mixcraft to “release the audio driver when inactive” or similar.

John

Hello,
The message gone away and it works good after I’ve downloaded the Mixcraft 8 pro studio version. I was on the ”try it for free” version before. I think it was the cheaper ”recording studio” version. Maybe it couldn’t drive EZdrummer?
Thank you for your time.

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomHey so I’m trying to use EZD2 in Pro Tools First and I’m having the same issue; the “audio engine inactive” in the bottom right of EZ drummer. Do I seriously need to upgrade to open it up in the DAW?

Pro Tools First is a streamlined version of Pro Tools, available for free, which doesn’t support 3rd party plugins.
You’ll either need a commercial version of Pro Tools, or you need a VST or AU DAW like Ableton Live, Cubase, Logic Pro, Reaper, etc…

I am getting the same error message in Cubase 10 Pro in EZDrummer 2 (both updated to most recent version) on a clean install of Windows 10. All are the 64 bit versions.
Audio is cutting out and the message is displayed if I have a MIDI loop playing within EZDrummer and try and select an audio insert on any channel in Cubase.

EZdrummer version: 2.1.8
Operating system: Windows 10
Update: I did a rollback on my RME Babyface to the previous driver version which seems to have fixed the problem.
Well that was temporary….the issue is back. I’m also unable to replicate the problem in Ableton so it’s likely isolated to Cubase-EZD2. I’m getting the error msg whenever I try and select almost ANY function in Cubase (e.g. select a different audio track) and playback within EZD2 stops but only if I have the EZD2 GUI open. If I start a loop and close the plugin GUI, I don’t experience the problem. Weird.
Hi,
I’m not running Cubase but is there some kind of ‘Smart Disable’ or ‘Release audio driver when inactive’ or similar setting in Cubase you can toggle?
BR,
John

Already tried that (and the other ASIO driver options). No luck, unfortunately.
Hi there,
I’m trying to use EZD2 in Pro Tools 12 and I’m having the same issue; the “audio engine inactive” in the bottom right of EZ drummer; I should mention I also have a Behringer Xair 18 mixer. Can you please help me? Thank you
you’re not alone, lots of people are having issues with Cubase 10 and EZD2 with this “audio driver issue” I load up Cubase 8.5 and it’s not there, it’s a small niggle, but I have steinberg Teamviewer-ing in sometime next week (yet again!) to try and resolve this and other issues.
My suspicion is a dodgy driver in Cubase or EZD2 and they just don’t like each other.
Latest drivers, all windows updates, running Win7-64 with an i7, 24GB Ram, and a Steinberg UR824 card. my other machine runs Cubase 10 ( I have two licenses for work) and it does the exact same thing.
I get the Audio Driver Not Ready error in EZDrummer2’s VST window when I simply left click on anything in the Cubase project window.
However, if I select “Mixer” in EZD2, and left click again, it goes away. My guess is it’s a Toontrack issue. I’m on v.2.18, I may roll back (if I can) to a previous version until they fix the bugs.
Keep us updated with any resolution on this guys!

But you guys do not get actual audio drop-out or silence? It’s only visual? when you play, there is sound?

If you have the EZD2 GUI open and have a midi loop playing, audio will play and then dropout as soon as you perform another function in Cubase – e.g. select a different track or apply an insert plugin.
The current workaround I’m using is to play the loop and simply close the EZD2 GUI, before performing other tasks in Cubase. It’s an annoyance rather than a showstopper.
I’m gonna jump into this thread because I just started having this problem today. When I playback my DAW all audio from the ezdrummer2 plugin plays as expected. But, when I open up the plugin to audition midi parts in the browser window I constantly get the audio device error and audio cuts out. The error does not stay lit up, it just flashes on and off randomly. This does not seem to happen at all in the search window.
I’m running Studio One 4.5.1 and macOS 10.14.5 on a 2019 MacBook Pro with an Audient iD22 interface. The iD22 is new and I just installed the mixer software today. That could be one factor…perhaps I touched a setting I shouldn’t have when setting up the device in S1? I’ve never had a problem on my previous interfaces (Presonus, UAD).
