Hi all. Loving the product! I noticed something odd and was wondering if this was a bug or feature and wanted to see if there was a better workaround.
My workflow:
1) Create a VSTi track in Cubase Pro 8 and assign EZDrummer 2 to it
2) EZD2 is synched up automatically, so when I hit play in CP8, EZD2 starts in its internal MIDI editor track where I am at on the timeline in CP8 and follows tempo
3) Find a beat and use Song Creator to build a song-length MIDI track in EZD2
4) Copy-and-paste the entire song track from EZD2 to the instrument track in CP8
5) Delete the EZD2 internal MIDI track (select all and remove)
6) Now when I hit play in CP8, I hear the CP8 instrument track MIDI triggering EZD2, but also the removed internal EZD2 MIDI track is still triggering as well, resulting in doubled hits
7) If I then entirely delete the MIDI block from the CP8 instrument track EZD2 is assigned to (in other words there are no active MIDI blocks in either software) and press play in CP8, EZD2 continues to trigger the notes that were previously deleted from within its own editor track and CP8.
Basically, once I create a song in EZD2 and delete it from the editor, it still triggers those notes that were once there. Odd behavior. Makes editing the drum parts externally in thenDAW difficult, because if I want to let EZD2 create a basic song structure and then use CP8 to edit it, the original song after it is deleted continues to play along with the edits I make in CP8, which makes it impossible to hear what I am doing.
The slightly annoying workaround I have found is to create a second instrument track in CP8 with another instance of EZD2 assigned to it, copy-and-paste the EZD2 song created on the first track into it, mute the first one, and then I can edit the MIDI in CP8 and actually hear only that track, not the “ghost” track EZD2 continues to play on the first instrument track.
So, am I missing something, or is this a bug?
Thanks all!

Hi,
haven’t seen that behavior. Which version number is displayed in the plugin interface?
If you disengage the ‘Follow host’ button in EZdrummer 2, it doesn’t play when you run the Cubase timeline, right?

A side note – have you enabled “MIDI out” in EZdrummer 2? If so, that can potentially cause this behaviour if the output MIDI from EZdrummer 2 loops back into EZdrummer 2…

Hey guys I appreciate the fast response!

So I made sure I was up to date with the latest 2.1.1 version, and checked and confirmed that MIDI out was not enabled. Deactivating Follow Host does indeed work as a much simpler workaround to duplicating tracks! Thanks for the tip. I’m still new to the software and learning it, but that one should have been obvious on my own.
Thanks so much again for the help! I really love this software.
