I’m using EZD3 with my Roland TD27 module. All the mapping is great, but the sidestick on all kits is very quiet. If I smack the pad with all I’ve got, it’s still quiet. It doesn’t get close to the max velocity I hear when triggering the instrument by clicking on the snare rim in the EZD3 interface.
I tried to take a look at the velocity of the hit on the Velocity curve inside the E-Drums/MIDI In window, but for some reason some instruments, including the snare, don’t register on the velocity curve when I hit the pad.
My solution for other instruments that need need more velocity is to adjust the curve or simply boost the instrument volume, however that doesn’t work with the snare because I don’t want to increase the sound of the center hits or rim shots.
Currently, I can’t use EZD3 for any songs that require sidestick because it simply isn’t loud enough in the mix
Hi,
does it help increasing the sensitivity for the Rim in the Module? If you record the MIDI, does the velocity on the recorded MIDI reflect what you hear, i.e. very low?
Perhaps not a reply you wish to have but EZdrummer 3’s bigger brother Superior Drummer 3 lets you have separate velocity curves and volume for individual articulations.

Hi John – thanks for the tip. I’ll try recording the midi and see how the velocity registers. And yep, I figured SD3 might have the capability to do what I need.
I found a workaround – turn on local midi control on the TD-27 module and create a custom kit with the snare cross stick as the only audible instrument. Some tweaking of the snare rimshot is necessary since it’s tied together with the cross stick, but that can be done within the instrument editing parameters. It’s a quick and dirty solution but works pretty well.
