So, loving EZD3. When launching it by itself, it works wonderfully. BUT, when launching EZD3 independently, Logic Pro X doesn’t automatically connect with it. I have to launch it FROM Logic Pro X for that to happen. Unfortunately, when launching EZD3 from Logic, it loads EZD3 in BASIC mode. BASIC mode kinda sucks compared to the full version. The window isn’t scalable. Each drum is NOT available as its own channel (i.e. all toms are just grouped as an OH mic, etc.) Any way to get Logic to recognize EZD3 when it’s launched independently, and not through Logic? I do have an older iMac, but had no issues loading and launching EZD3, and Logic works fine. Maybe too old of a version of Logic?
Specs / Versions:
iMac: macOS Sierra 10.12.6, 16GB RAM
Logic Pro X: Version 10.3.1
EZD3: v 3.0.6
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Yes, that’s what happens when you open a virtual instrument as standalone.
Which EZD rooms are you working with? Main and Bright have the toms in their own mixer channels. Tight has them in the overheads.
I can scale mine, by dragging any of the four edges
Mick, thanks for the reply, and I am using the bright room, but when I changed the mixer settings for that room, it did fix my toms issue! (Newby to EZD3… thank you). However, the window still does not scale like when it is independently launched. Not a show-stopper but a little disappointing. Playing with various work flows, but in some instances, BASIC mode opens up, and in others MANUAL mode opens up when launching within Logic. still trying to see what the difference is, and what exactly what causes a BASIC vs MANUAL mode launch.
Thanks again
We’ve all had to start somewhere. As for the scaling, I thought you were talking about the standalone. View – > Scale gives some scaling. I can’t say anything about Basic and Manual; I’ve never heard of either.
There is no such thing as BASIC mode in Logic. The reason the plug-in is not scaling is because you have a very outdated version of Logic which doesn’t support AU scaling and perhaps a few other features. However, you won’t be able to update Logic to the latest versions without updating your macOS. Everything else in EZ Drummer should work just like it does in standalone.
you could probably set up a MIDI IAC Bridge to have Logic Possibly talk to EZ Drummer. However, you would be trading off one set of issues for another.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanThanks… When I mentioned BASIC and MANUAL modes, I was talking abou EZD3 when launched through Logic, not Logic itself. But yeah… I was kind of suspecting that the older versions of Logic and the macOS were the culprits. I’m making it work for now, and have an upgrade path planned. Thanks again.
I probably should have been more specific in referring to basic mode as there is one for Logic itself. EZ Drummer however doesn’t fall under this. I think AU resizing came out around 10.5.
