Your latency is coming from somewhere else. Extremely doubtful that you can detect 3/1000th of a second. Even if your roundtrip latency is 6ms, you’re still doing well. What are your computer specs?

This is an assumption because I don’t have access to a processor such as yours. I didn’t even realize they made an i7 with such a low spec. Maybe official TT support can weight in as to whether this will work or not. My assumption is no. You can contact official support by going to the very bottom of any FAQ.

It’s interesting that the minimum requirements for EZD do not require a CPU spec. My complete assumption is because someone who is just composing can deal with latency. Someone who is performing live will need a fast computer. 1.7GHz seems tough to me. Maybe someone else can chime in. I’m on a i7 4.0 and I can tolerate way more than 6ms of live playing if i felt like it, so you get an idea of where I’m coming from.

If you’re stuck with that processor, you could try an audio interface to see if that speeds things up for you. But I do not have the solution, just assumptions. Ram is not a big deal, hard drives are not a big deal (unless they are full)… it’s just CPU and Audio card/interface that makes things happen here.

I figured out atleast part of it.. I wasn’t loading the E-kit default..  so the cymbal choke now works..  I also switched from McAfee to Norton anti-virus. Sped things up a bit.

I was watching a tutorial with Nick D from Sweetwater (that I finallyfound). He had a Roland kit, but it was able to go to about 1.5ms latency. For some reason I’m only able to get as low as 3. Anyways… Correction on the processor speed… its 4.7 GHz. Plenty fast. Thanks for the help tho!

    Hi,

if possible, use hardware with dedicated ASIO drivers. You could always try the ASIO4ALL drivers but I’m not so sure it would make much difference to what you have now.

Please try to disable the AV while drumming, it could improve your experience. Also, there is a Surge MIDI Preset, did you find it?

    Just use an audio interface.

This way the processing power is done by the interface, not the computer. And the latency gets lower.

I have a brand new and very fast PC, but only can achieve really low latencies (0.4 ms) using the interface.

In my case it is a MOTU M4. With it’s dedicated driver installed.

ASIO worked perfectly! I’m as far down as 5.4ms with very few glitches. Thanks all for the help!

While I’m here, is there and midi packs available with just additional sounds and not so much grooves? Just looking to expand the sound library other than what came with EZD 2 and 3… Thanks all!
