I bought the Big Rock Drums pack with EZ drummer 3 a few days ago. The drums sounds generally are excellent. But….
The kick drum lasts for ages and is unusable without damping it down (like in real life). Is there really no way to control the damping or decay in EZ drummer???? If a drummer came in with a kick drum like that you would be stuffing things into it to control it, but here there is nothing! I put kick and snare through separate outs and put a transient shaper on them which helped, but even then it wasn’t tight enough. Also, you cannot do this for the bleed into the overheads, as it would ruin the cymbals.I can’t believe all the reviews didn’t mention this.
Am I missing something??
Thanks

I think you’re right. I need to tweak. I know I can have it on a separate output and gate it but it’s not really the same thing. It won’t change what bleeds into the OHs, and gates can wreck the front of a drum hit as well.
I will have to look elsewhere.
Thanks for your input!
I’ve gated a kick without losing the start of the hit. All it needs is the right threshold and release settings.
or use Fab Dupont’s trick ‘Crystal Ball, Future-Looking’ duplicate Kick track sidechain trick.
Essentially, a duplicate of the Kick track is made and has been slid forward on the timeline
to enable the gate/compressor to ‘see’ the transients, etc. before they actually occur on the ‘real’ Kick track.
(The duplicate Kick track is used ONLY as a sidechain & should be routed/bussed where it will be unheard in the mix.)
