I’ve got the Basic Jazz midi pack, but it is using sticks – I wondered if there is a way to have brushes instead.
Thankyou!
You need particular EZXs that have brushes.
I was researching to do a video on this which I haven’t put out yet… here’s the info though if you’re looking to make a purchase
Americana:
Has full brush kit (excluding the small alternate cymbal)
Snares-off (plus toms and kick that have a no snare bleed option)
Has special cymbal
Big Band:
Has full brush kit (excluding the splash cymbal)
Wires-off (plus toms and kick that have a no snare bleed option)
*Has Sizzle Ride (sounds like a low dynamic crash playing with the ping of a ride)
Claustrophobic:
Full Brush Kit, plus extra brush snare.
Full cymbal; blend kit pieces.
Separate hi snares category
2 cowbells
(ended here for special instruments)
Custom Shop:
Full brush kit except 2nd floor tom (only 2 toms have brushes)
Jazz:
Full Brush Kit *extra brush floor tom
Nashville:
Full Brush Kit
Post-Rock:
Full Brush kit except 1 of 4 toms
Singer-Songwriter:
Full Brush Kit plus extra Snare
Vintage Rock:
Full Brush Kit with extra snare. Brushes are hitting pretty hard

Thanked by: DindiThanks Shootie!!!
I’ve never bought an EZX expansion pack yet. Suppose I buy the Jazz one – after install does it just show up with some new drum kits, and will I be able to choose brushes somehow and then will I be able to use the brushes on ALL of my existing Midi packs that I have installed? Does an EZX also include Grooves (like the Midi packs do)?
Thanks again
Hi Dindi,
EZX:s always include MIDI Grooves made for the EZX in question.
You switch library in the top right library drop-down menu. You can also switch out Kit pieces from other EZX:s than the currently loaded by selecting a kit piece on the ‘Drums’ page and then click the Instrument drop-down menu top left.
You can indeed use MIDI grooves from other EZX:s or MIDI Packs but e.g. Snare hits from a Pop Groove do not automatically become Swirl brushes, they will play back as regular hits, just with a brush, if you see what I mean.

Thanked by: Austin Joseph Hill and DindiLike John says, only certain drums (of many) are recorded with brushes in these EZXs. You you have to select/load the specific drum first. Few of these EZXs have a full preset for brushes to instantly load a full brush kit.
If your just doing a song here and there with brushes, an EZX will be fine. If brushes are your thing, I would consider investing in Superior Drummer 3 instead. Out of the gate it has brushes plus the Swirl Articulation, and there are SDXs that do a lot more with brushes.

Not every EZX listed above has a Swirl/Drag articulation, fyi. Jazz EZX does.

Thanked by: Granitza and DindiThankyou Shootie and John! I’m going to purchase the Jazz EZX. I’m mostly a hard and soft Rock guy, but I have some jazz compositions on classical guitar that need a jazz brush type sound behind them.
One last question: If I put together a full brush set using the instrument drop-down, is there any way to Save that kit for future projects?
Certainly. You save a “Library Preset”. Upper Right Dropdown Menu>User Presets>Save As.
Enjoy!
