If you take a look at the attached screen shots, I loaded a midi file from the Ballads collection. Based on the chord progression, it is clear that this is the key of G major, but the software identifies it as C major. As seen in the second screen shot, I switched the key signature to G major it changes the chords to a progression that is actually D major. Can anyone explain to me whats going on there? Thank you!!

Hi Nicholas. Seeing C major as the key selected in the tool isn’t surprising since it is the relative major to Am. Both scales contain the same notes, but are based on a different mode (Ionian and Aeolian). I’m nut sure why you would expect to see a Cm chord when working in Am. A Cm chord would have Eb in the 3rd which would be an accidental. Not that you can’t do that, but the software wouldn’t suggest that simply because it is in a different key. If you really want a Cm just pop up the chord selector and choose it. The chord selector looks like a circle of fifths when it pops up. One other note (no pun intended). This tool wasn’t intended to teach music theory. It is more of a music creation tool. If this answer doesn’t make sense you may need to learn a little more music theory before continuing your work in EZKeys.
Hi Michael,
I have attached a midi file when reporting this matter. It was a A minor Chord progress created using Scaler 2 A minor-A sus2-Asus4-Aminor.
And it turned out to be that attached picture C minor Progression automatically after I dragged/using import feature. I tried clicking on C Major/A Minor Signature nothing happen there. However switch to other key signature seems to works.
One more bugs/issue I noticed trying to re-create using the Circle of Fifth For A minor Sus2 or 4. A minor add9 remove 3rd = A sus 2 . However the midi exporter for sus 2 or 4 still having the 3rd notes attached.
Not sure if you want to recreate my scenarios if you get the same issue.
fyi, I have basic knowledge how to create basic chords. So that C Minor thing after dragged in from my A Minor progression just feel strange and confusing to me.
Hi Nicholas. I downloaded your a-minor.mid file and it loaded into my EZKeys correctly. At first I wasn’t able to recreate the issue with the key signature set to either C major or A minor, which is exactly what I expected. Upon further experimentation I found that EZKeys, for some reason that I can’t comprehend, thinks your midi file is in F#m/A. This is why it is transposing the chords to Cm. Make sure the option to transpose the midi file to the project key signature is turned off. When you do that you will get the chords you are expecting.
Hi Michael,
You are my life saver solving my issue. For some reason I never get to see that pop up until you pointed out this.
I have made the setting to ask every time importing midi.
Thank you so much for your time experimenting my issue!
Cheers!
Nick
Hi,
I’m trying to record from the DAW track to the timeline and EZ Keys 1 (V.1.3.5) keeps mis-transposing from the key of G to B.
Here’s a video I made to show what’s going on: https://youtu.be/sNaR9e9YFWI
Could you please tell me how to fix this or workaround?
Many thanks,
Jeremiah
Hi,
I’m playing in G but ez keys1 (V.1.35) keeps saying that it’s in B, so everything sounds dissonant. Can you help me fix this?
Here’s a photo and video of what’s going on:
That’s my workaround for getting it to sound a ‘G’ note, even though it’s registering/playing ‘B’.
I don’t have any ideas other than if there is any transpose info on the track causing it to transpose before it goes the EZkeys plugin. Transpose on the keyboard output?
Does it do the same thing on every project or just this?
If your workaround of adjusting the semitones in EZkeys works, I’d keep doing that.

I found a workaround if you want to change key but not transpose the chords i n EZKeys [if anyone is still having issues]
There’s probably a way to streamline this process, but it does work
maybe copy the events, create a new track and set the key, paste. then remove the original track
