Ez Drumming not syncing between DAW and EZD3 UI ?

Hello,

(Skip to question because that’s a little bit ranty)

So i bought EZ Drummer 3 recently and i am having a very big trouble with how NOT EASY it is. So i am using Reaper last version and EZ Drummer 3 last version.

When i record in Reaper, i arm the track, play my stuff with FX EZD3 and i can play with the sound and it’s ok. But when i do mess up, i wanted to fix stuff inside the EZD3 UI on the grid because it looked better then reaper.

But to have it to appear inside EZD3, i have to arm record INSIDE EZD3. And EVERY TIME i hit stop. The records unarms itselfs, so i have to stand up and go rearm it EVERY TIME. Which is a real pain in the ass as i don’t need to that.

Also i can’t drag from DAW to EZD3. I thought it would be easy but man it’s not.

I am doing self record on my own all instrments, singing and mixing so i wanted something that would help me but it seems like i added another layer of complexity… Right now i’m comtemplating a track with TWO drums, one in DAW playing with easy drummer and on top of it some drums INSIDE EZ Drummer that reaper doesn’t see and they play at the same time.

So… the questions : 

• How do you record with that thing ? Do you just load it, play along and never touch the thing again and do every fix in reaper ?
• Is there a combination of stuff That’s not CTRL ALT Drag that works ?
• Do i have to record OUTSIDE of the DAW ?
• Is there a way to tell EZ Drummer to not disarm every time you stop ?
• Is there any sync with the daw i can do in the settings ?

Have you hit the Follow Host button, at the bottom of the EZD window?

Hi,

apart from Mick’s advice to make sure ‘Follow Host’ is enabled to have EZD3 run in sync with Reaper, I would say the easiest way for you would be to first record to the Reaper Instrument Track, then record arm the Song Track in the EZD3 plug/in and hit play in Reaper. This will then record the MIDI from the Reaper Track to your EZD3 Song Track for editing.
There is currently no way to keep the EZd3 Song Track in Rec armed mode after stopping.
Only a few DAW’s allow for MIDI to be dragged from the DAW to a plug-in inside it, I don’t think Reaper is one of them.

Nope it doesn’t. If i put follow host it just play from 1 to 200 in DAW but loops from 1 to 30 because it doesn’t share the selection. It’s HardDrummer for me. It can even layer two tracks on top of each other or it can even play a track that is not even shown in the daw. It’s like the only thing that is supposed to work in the DAW is the sound and all the “EZ” parts are to be done outside of the DAW because … well it was meant to be standalone.

But that’s my fault. I thought it would be really magic for the price but … it’s complex as hell, have a very very bad ui (the double play, the double record) the record in Daw but record in ther program the export / import nonsence, the bandmate that only works if you tell it exactly what you want so it takes the same amount of time that when i do it myself.

Franckly for 300bucks i’m very fucking angry at myself to have believed it would be better than what it is 🙁 Or… Easier i should say…

It is a standalone program that you can use in a limited way inside the daw and i believed it was a completly integrated thing. Newbie mistake i guess

At least i have nice sounds now i guess.

Hi,

sorry to hear you are having difficulties, hopefully we can straighten things out.

If you have a loop area enabled in EZD3, it is not following your host correctly, as you have noticed. Just release the loop in EZD3 by either clicking the loop button or Shift+G.

If you have recorded MIDI in Reaper and transferred it onto the EZD3 Song Track, you can mute it on the Reaper Track. If you do it the other way around; drag from EZD3 to Reaper, then either Mute the parts on the EZD3 Song Track or Disable Follow Host.
