I’ve just created a baseline iMac workstation with all of my EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer products to include several EZX and SDX sound libraries and MIDI packs which reside on a separate external drive. I’ve fully tested EZ Drummer in standalone mode with all kits, and tested both EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer in Pro Tools with all kits. Everything’s working fine on the baseline iMac, and EZ Drummer is targeting the kits on the sound library drive as anticipated.
I’ve now created a hard drive image of the baseline iMac using Carbon Copy Cloner and, using Disk Utlility on -boot, copied (i.e., “restored”) the baseline image to a second iMac which opens up Pro Tools and all of other applications well. Additionally, I copied the EZDrummer, Superior_Drummer, and License folders from the baseline computer’s sound library drive to the second computer’s sound library drive.
I selected EZ Drummer 2 as an instrument plug-in in Pro Tools and authorized my serial number online with no problem on the new second computer. I also verified that EZ Drummer could find the new computer’s sound library drive by selecting the Modern and Vintage kits. I subsequently logged on to the Toontrack site and verified the new computer ID with the serial number used. I then launched EZ Drummer in standalone mode and it asked me for authorization again. I went through the authorization process again and received the “OK” dialog box again. I quit and re-launched EZ Drummer which again asked me for authorization. I quit EZ Drummer, re-launched Pro Tools, re-loaded EZ Drummer as an Instrument insert, and I was again prompted for authorization. I re-verified the serial number and the computer ID on My Products page.
So I quit Pro Tools, re-launched EZ Drummer, and tried the “authorize offline” process with the same results. I then restarted the computer for good measure, launched EZ Drummer, and still got the authorize dialog box. I tried deleting the License folder from the sound library drive, restarting the computer, launching EZ Drummer, and re-authorizing with the same serial number, but I was still prompted to authorize after quitting and re-launching EZ Drummer. I subsequently put the License folder back on the sound library drive.
I’ve searched the Toontrack forum and was only able to find re-authorization problems and fixes with Windows PCs. I was also unsuccessful finding anything relevant with several Google searches.
Please free me from my re-authorization hell, and ensure I don’t run into the same problem with the rest of my EZX, SDX, PP, and MIDI serial numbers as I have 29 more workstations to image and make operable by the end of the week.
Thanks,
Darryl
I think the problem is probably that you’ve authorised on one Mac and then copied the cloned installation to another. The original authorisation data has been written across and because you have a different system ID on the 2nd Mac reauthorisation is being requested. You could try creating another image and cloning before authorising any of the Toontrack products then authorising separately on each machine. A discrete installation for each machine would be the recommended method but I can understand with 29 machines that is a big task.

Thanks, Damian. I was able to get the second workstation going by reinstalling EZD2 and re-authorizing. From there, Superior Drummer and all of the EZX/SDX libraries authorized fine against the imaged main drive (i.e., “Macintosh HD”) and the sound library drive. So I think I’m going to simply uninstall/reinstall the EZD2 app from my baseline machine without authorizing and re-image the main drive. Thanks for the recommendation and swift reply–I’ll keep you posted. Blessings, Darryl
