I use a GTech G-Drive 2TB ext SSD to store all my sound libraries. Toontrack and SpitfireAudio. You can move all libraries you already have and relink the paths in your DAW or the PM. It will ask you to locate them when you try to load them.

Any future libraries should be downloaded directly to the SSD.

First off, Product Manager, SD3 are not certified on Big Sur. So you may not be able to complete these tasks. I rolled my only Big Sur installation back to Mojave after finding very few things I needed were supported on it. YMMV.

So……. With Catalina, Mohave, etc… however, where you download the installation files is different from where you install them. So download the installers to where ever you want them to temporarily reside, that is something that is configured in Product Manager. Download Superior Drummer 3 Library Part 1. Run the installer (from Product Manager), it will give you the option to “Browse” to an alternate location to install the library, that’s where you navigate to your external drive. I use G-Tech, Samsung, Crucial and Angelbird. I’ve had them all for around 3-4 years, none of them have failed.

If you have already installed the Superior Drummer 3 sample library and you want to move it, shutdown PM and SD3. Find the folder; SL-SuperiorDrummer3 and move it to the new location (don’t touch anything else). Start SD3 (stand alone) go to Settings > Libraries/Paths open the hamburger menu at the end of SL-SuperiorDrummer3 and select “change path”, navigate to where you moved SL-SuperiorDrummer3. Should be good to go after that. PM will find the new path as well.
