When I try programming open hi-hat hits which are closed after a beat, the hi-hats are always opened for a very short period of time, even on the loosest articulations. I tried changing note length, but it didn’t make a difference. Is there a way to control this?
Hi,
could you please be more specific about which library and hi-hat you are using? The ‘open edge/tip 4-5’ articulations should be pretty long.

Hi,
I’m using the core library, and the default Ayotte kit setup. When I preview the open hi-hat notes under the various articulations available in the grid editor, they sound quite long, but as soon as I program the notes in and play them back, they sound short. I’m not sure why this is happening.
Hi,
Just following up on this, as I haven’t been able to rectify the issue.
Hi,
could you please save an SD3 Project where this is happening and attach to a post here? I have my suspicions but I would like to check.
BR,
John

Hi John,
Here you go. When I record on my kit, everything works fine, but the moment I edit any notes, they lose their length and sound extremely short, regardless of how long I extend the open note to. I also have trouble changing open notes to closed – when I move notes from the edge trigger to any closed articulations, they still sound open.
Hi,
if I open your SD3 Project, it plays back as expected, when looking at the note and CC data. You are triggering the “Edge Trigger” note and controlling the openness with the CC data from the Pedal. Since there is CC data on the Track, dragging a note to a regular articulation will not work to change the openness (length), only lowering the CC data at that point in time (0=fully open, 127=fully closed).
If your CC data looks like this (which seems pretty normal) and you still get chopped HH notes where you expect more open notes, I would look into if you have a faulty MIDI controller sending CC data. You can either record MIDI while not doing anything or open the “MIDI Monitor” Property Box on the DRUMS page in SD3, to see if there is CC data being received without you doing anything.
BR,
John
