Experience with SD3 and Yamaha DTX700 (switching from Roland world)

Quick question: Anyone have experience, recommendation, insights, and tips on using a DTX700 with SD3?

I am using a pieced together Pintech kit with a TD12 triggering SD3. It’s just ok. There is a lot of wonkiness and its just not smooth. I blame much of this on the kit and not on SD3. Thinking of getting a Yamaha DTX720K. Like the silicon pads but don’t want to pay 3K for a kit. Thoughts on DTX700 with SD3? Any insights would be great.
