I was anxiously counting the days to the EZbass launch, and so far it has exceeded my expectations in every respect. I work primary with rock/alternative/indie bands, and the one thing I am most eager to see added is a Precision bass expansion. Something along the lines of Punk Bass by Submission Audio, which despite its name is extremely useful in a variety of genres. I’m sure Toontrack would knock it out of the park, perhaps the EZbass equivalent to the Pop Punk Drums EZX.
What bass is the vintage bass? Some kind of hybrid? A P-Bass obviously only has one pickup, but I think with the right balance between the two pickups it sounds close to a P-Bass.
Anyway, I hope we will see add-on basses. But also different amps. What I miss at the moment is more control over the output from the bass. The presets to me look like a temporary thing to be replaced later by different amps etc. Seeing how far they have taken Superior 3, I hope to see the same development for EZbass.
Per Toontrack’s description on their website, the Vintage is modeled on Fender Jazz bass, while the Modern is an Alembic.
FWIW I find the Vintage model pretty good for punk. I use the 70’s amp preset, lots of gain and high note velocity, to get the fret noise. Mix the pickups and tweak the amp tone to suit, or use the DI option and plug it into Amplitube or similar for more options.
