I am using EZDrummer 2 and also EZBass and EZKeys 2. Most of the time, everything works fine. However, sometimes when I press Play in the DAW, the tracks don’t respond, that is, they don’t play. When I look at their window, they have the “audio engine inactive” message. All I have to do generally is to just click on the VST windows as if I was going to edit, and then the next time I press Play they respond normally. I have also tried pressing the Stop button in the transport control to wake them up.
This happens perhaps 25% of the time in a complex project with lots of other instruments; I am editing something else, and haven’t touched the EZKeys or EZBass windows, and suddenly they aren’t triggered by the DAW the next time I press Play. I find them and click on them to activate them and then they respond. This happens often enough to be a real nuisance.
So is it possible that there is a setting that would make this work better? Has anyone else experienced this? I applied updates to all the Toontrack products not that long ago. I have looked over the settings of these instruments, and I don’t see anything to try.
This has been happening for some time. I am using Mixcraft Pro Studio 9, Build 3470, Windows 10 Pro.
Thanks for any help with this.
Glenn
I got that error twice and rebooted Windows both times. I’ll try your clicking on the VST. Maybe it’s the system being overloaded.

Thanked by: Glenn PolinI use Reaper but there should be something in the audio settings of the Daw you use. Something like “Close audio device when stopped and application is inactive”.
Something along those lines. The box is usually checked by default. Uncheck the box. Keep in mind it may be worded differently.
You will probably find it under Preferences-Audio. At least that’s how it is in Reaper
