Drum Tracker Mic’ing the Drums, How To Videos,

I am curious about using this but I am lost on how to mic and deal with Rids, Crashes, etc…

Is the best way to close mic the cymbals, ie: ride, crash 1, crash 2.

Also what about the hat’s… close mic and set it to see the tight and open hats?

I get the snare, kick, toms… but the cymbals seems to freak me out. I would rather have a drummer come over and play on songs and import all into SD2

Are there any good how to youtube vieos that deal in depth? I love programming with SD2, but I know drummers want to play on some songs and would love to learn how to import into drum tracker and get rad midi files to work with!

If you want to automatically convert th brassware with Drumtracker, then close miking is the way to go -otherwise you will have to manually indentify the cymbals from your overheads (possible, but tedious).

An alternative is to put piezo transducers on the cymbals (you’re after a musical event, not an impeccable reproduction of it), or other similar bug, and record the transient, or the MIDI event (if the bug’s brain proides it). Or of course, use e-drum cymbals ;o)
