I love SD3. One feature I wish for though, is a drum notation option incorporated into the Midi Editor. At the moment I have to rearrange the Kick from being top of the Grid Editor to the bottom, move the hats/ride to the top etc and snare/toms in the middle like drum notation reads. (I hope this makes sense). I usually scribble drum grooves down on a little note pad whilst practising and it’d great to be able to program them and then see the notation back on the screen. It’s easier for me to to read than dots on a midi editing screen. Is this ever likely to be an option?
We haven’t focused on this, since it’s possible in most DAWs to show MIDI as drum notation. Have you tried this, and if so, how is your experience with that?

Hello, I use Mixcraft Pro 8 and it has a score option but it’s no good. If I export a midi groove from SD3 to the DAW then the snare might trigger D2 and the Kick C2 so on the score they’re directly next to each other, unlike on a real drum score.
Also, if I try and save my default set up, after I’ve amended the Grid Editor to have rides/hats at the top, kick at the bottom etc like in a real drum sheet, then it doesn’t save this order once I exit the program. Despite me saving my default setup. It’s annoying.
Is there any fix for this? I want to write grooves within SD3 and then read the drum notation properly in a DAW so it’s easier to edit.
I haven’t used Mixcraft that much, but is it possible to change the order of the notes in the drum score notation?
You can rearrange the notes as you want them to look in Mixcraft. In that case, to make Superior Drummer 3 play the correct instruments, you need to make a Midi In preset (found in SD3 Settings / Midi In/E-drums), that will transform your changed notes in Mixcraft to the correct instrument again.
The order of the tracks in the Grid Editor is only a visual change, it doesn’t change any note numbers. However, we have that on our todo list to make it possible for users to keep the order they have created.

“we have that on our todo list to make it possible for users to keep the order they have created.” <<<<<< THIS!!!! 🙂 Thank you
Really want this to happen soon. I love the ability to change the order but it stinks to have to keep changing it every time you load a fresh project 🙁

Any update on this for a future patch Toontrack?
Im really hoping. It helps to get keep a nice workflow

Hi everyone,
I’m just checking to see if there has been any further development on this please? I’m using SD3 in Reaper. Even though I haven’t changed any mappings the score is all over the place in Reaper in regards to the MIDI drums. I’d love to be able to easily export my MIDI drums to a standard drum notation score as I’m getting asked for this score. I’m not really looking at the Mixcraft option as I don’t want to buy and install another DAW. I’ve tried exporting the MIDI from Reaper and putting that into Guitar Pro as that has a drum tablature function but it’s not worked.
Thanks in advance!
Hello and Happy New Year,
what is the state of development of a drum notation to be able to print grooves so you can practice single parts without calculator etc.?
The workaround the order of the instruments in the grid editor was one of the first things I changed to have a kind of “practice view” of the midi notes at this point.
BTW: This adjustment of the view is unfortunately not taken over in the main window (total timeline below), which would be more logical from my point of view. I see these as a blur at least.
Back to the topic:
You guys have such a great product. A print or PDF export function of the grooves would be a round thing and is more out desirable.
With kind regards
Uwe

Thanked by: Esteban_Drums and Bernhard HenslerI was hoping that creating drum notation was going to be an option within EZdrummer 3 – especially as the grid editor looks so easy to use within that. Getting excellent quality notation from easy to compose drum editing is a bit of a holy grail for drummers as most DAWs produce fairly poor drum notation and most budget to medium price notation software seems to have drums as an afterthought. As such, drummers often have to compromise or spend many hours editing the notation before something shareable is created. Numerous issues exist – such as the way that e.g. notation software created for e.g. pianos often create tied notes and split the drum motifs into odd notation. By this I mean that phrasing for drummers is frequently deliberately constructed into groups of quarter note phrases (i.e. 4 in common time, fewer / greater in other time signatures) whereas phrasing for pianos / stringed instruments is less regimented. I honestly believe that this could be a whole new revenue stream for Toontrack if this was developed to the usual amazing quality. Paying $180 for such a thing, within EZD3, would not break the bank for most drummers who teach, produce media or want to see how a programmed pattern appears as notes. For non-drummers the option to compose a part in Toontrack products to then print for drummers to play their music live would also make EZD3 more indispensable for song writers and composers.
