I can’t seem to get the thought out of mind that drum maps should be part of the drum vsti. I mean: delivered with it or otherwise, e.g. downloadable. I understand this can be a time consuming job for the vsti-maker at first, but keeping the maps actual will take a lot less time. And the joy you provide your customers with it will reimburse as customer loyalty.

There are way too many user combinations and preferences for any developer to be responsible for.  Not to mention that maps not are not only for hardware, but software as well. With the tools provided, drum maps are easy for a user to set up and takes roughly 10 minutes to do. Didn’t even take that long for me to set up a map for EZD3 to work with Logic’s Drummer.

Okay, cool you can. 🙂 But at midiremap.com (and maybe other sevices like that, that I have not yet discovered if they exist) they think different about that and even earn money with it (which I don’t like to pay). So if you, as the vsti-maker, e.g. only make maps for the major daws, then it will cost even less time. Time well spent, I am convinced. I mean if the vsti-maker is willing to do what i mean, a way to do that efficiently and at low cost can surely be found. Just make it part of the normal process.

MIDI maps require basic MIDI knowledge and the ability to use the Learn button in EZD3. There should be no real need to rely on any other company to re-map MIDI. As well they have nothing to do with a DAW. I only mentioned Logic because it has a feature that does drums. Anything that produces MIDI can be mapped in EZD3.

You as a user will only use one or maybe two maps, depending. For you to make them is a bit of your time. The expectation for a developer to cover all possible scenarios is unrealistic and a waste of their efforts. It’s the not responsibility of the developer to know what you are using and how you are using it. That’s why they empower you with the tools to create your own maps. It’s a one time effort for you.

some developers do create cross-product maps, for example Additive Drums has maps for EZD, BFD, Slate, etc and many more. as well as generic ones for GM and also e-kits – many many. EZD seems to have quite a few e-kits as well + a comprehensive mapping capability. so as Jordan noted – you are empowered to build them as you see fit. and since many follow the GM (roughly) then tweaking for the variations for your use should be straightforward.

for me, i have probably 2 dozen maps based on which app i’m sourcing the MIDI from and fit within my desired custom kits (so nothing out of the box, or i would have simply used them… 🙂 ) yes, it could take easily an hour to get it perfected and tested, but then, it’s yours… 😉

Thank you Jordan and Glenn. I see what you mean. I respect that you can and do all that. But I rather don’t do all the work needed for it. Adjusting a preset map at hand, at the most, preferably. So, lately I tend to choose Groove Agent first, which as you probably know, automatically generates drum maps. At least in Cubase. In the mean time hoping for AI to solve my wish, if Toontrack doesn’t.

    I leave at this.

Expanding on Glenn’s post, that if TT works in a similar manner as FXPansion did with BFD, most of the maps are user contributed by people believing that will take far more than the developers, or AI for that matter, to solve their wishes. I speak with experience on that as I was one of many contributors for BFD.

If one is to look at all of the maps for Superior Drummer 3, it would be rather hard to conceive that they could come up with them all in time for product launch, let along own and set up all of that equipment.

Thankfully, EZ Drummer 3 is far easier to set up a map. Like Glenn, I have various maps for communicating with various pieces of software. Drummer in Logic is just one of them.
