Hello!
I’m using VEPRO Server 6 with Pro Tools HD 10.3.10 on a Mac. I’m using VEPro Server because I can run Superior Drummer 3(64 bit app) with Pro Tools HD 10 which is still 32 bit.
I tried drag/dropping a “groove” file from the SD3 Groove Audition browser into a midi/instrument track in the Pro Tools edit window but the file would not “drop” into the track.
Is this a known issue? Thanks!!
Hi,
can you drag any (MIDI file or other )file from a plugin in VEPro to a Pro Tools Instrument Track?
You can still drag to the Desktop, right?

Hey John!
No, I can’t drag/drop from the plug-in to the instrument track in Pro Tools. I can though to the desktop.
I suspect that it’s a limitation between VEPro and Pro Tools, that’s why I asked if you can drag anything from any, i.e. not SD3, plug-in from VEPro to a Pro Tools Track.
Can you confirm with other VEPro / Pro Tools users?
The workaround would be dragging to e.g. Desktop first then from there to your Pro Tools Track.

John

I just tried drag/dropping to the desktop first and then drag/dropping that file into the Pro Tools Instrument track containing the VEPro 6 Server plugin. The file plays but is different then the same file in Superior Drummer 3’s Groove menu. By this I mean individual instrument levels(eg. hi-hats) were louder then the original. Tempo seems more “robotic” too.
Is there a setting selection to remedy this? I would think the file would play/sound identical in either Pro Tools or SD3. Thanks!!
Hi,
you’re not running both the Pro Tools Track and the internal SD3 Track at the same time, are you?
Do you have any Real-Time Properties Enabled on the Pro Tools Instrument Track?

I think aftertouch may be selected(cymbal choke on v-drum’s crash). Should I turn off V-Drum module?(TD-15)?
As for running PT and SD3 at the same time, I’m using SD3 inside Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 on the same Mac I’m running Pro Tools HD 10. I’ve got the VEPro 6 Server plugin open on an Instrument track in Pro Tools. Both audio and midi are received via the Instrument track this way.
No,
I meant the Pro Tools Instrument Track’s Real-Time Properties, they can be enabled to change Velocity, Pitch, etc. non-destructively in real-time.
With running at the same time, I meant if you have stuff on the SD3 Song Track that runs at the same time as your Pro Tools Instrument Track. Sometimes users build their song on the Song Track, then drag the MIDI over to their DAW and forget to disable ‘Follow Host’, so both track’s MIDI play back at the same time.
I haven’t been near VEPro in ages, so I am not sure this would be possible, if the VEPro plugin can send start/stop and running Timeline to VEPro or not.
But I am curious as to why you mention your module? Are you both E-drumming and dragging MIDI from the Groove Browser?
Do you have a TD-15 MIDI Preset enabled in the MIDI IN/E-drums settings?
BTW, which version number is displayed in the SD3 plugin window (lower left corner)?

John

Hey John
I went ahead and tried opening a new PT session along with a new instance of VEPro 6 Server with SD3.1.2. When checking the E-Drum Settings in SD3, I saw that my V-Drum module TD-15 was selected as a preset so I turned that off. Afterwards I did the drag/drop to the desktop then into the Pro Tools Instrument channel. Flawless performance. I then turned the TD-15 preset back on and level changes on certain cymbals like the hi-hat changed until I turned off the “preset” once again.
So that solves that. I still don’t know why I can’t drag/drop directly into the PT Instrument edit screen, bypassing the desktop completely. I know this is possible with other VIs via VEPro and Pro Tools.
Thanks again for your assistance!
It may actually be the fact that SD3 is 64-bit and PT 10 is 32-bit, I am not sure if the temp file is created elsewhere when you drag from SD3 to PT 10 instead of to the Desktop, so I’ll check this with my colleagues.

John

Thanks John!
The temp file location is the same in both cases. It’s possible that PT 10 has the same “bug” that EZdrummer had, which we fixed in version 2.1.6: “On some macOS versions it was not possible to drag and drop MIDI from certain programs/plug-ins, for example Superior Drummer 3, to EZdrummer.”
What macOS version are you on?

Yeah that problem was discovered on a 10.9 system, while it worked fine on 10.11 (and presumably newer too).
