    Hi,

dragging from host to plug-in is not really something that is supported since only very few DAWs (can not remind myself ATM if there’s any other than Reaper) allow for it. I would simply have ‘Follow host’ Enabled, click Rec on the SD3 Song Track and then Play the Reaper Timeline. This will record what’s on the Reaper Track directly to the SD3 Song Track.

Many thanks for the response John!

The thing is that my EZDrummer 2 I have works perfectly well in the exact same configuration, it’s only the SD3 which doesn’t 🙁

Found this in Reaper’s forum – apparently the Superior Drummer 3 is reading so fast the midi-file that it’s not yet fully rendered by Reaper.
However makes me wonder how & why does it work with EZDrummer 2, exactly in the same context. I can only think for some reason there is a very slight delay when EZD2 reads the Reaper’s produced midi-file.

“Sorry to revive an old thread, but is there a way to drag & drop like this directly into Superior Drummer 3 (SD3) and actually have it work? What appears to be happening (I’m on Reaper v6.03 now) is that it doesn’t actually save the MIDI file to the hard drive until after you let go of the drag & drop. And there seems to be a timing issue with SD3, where as soon as you drop the item into SD3 it immediately imports the .mid file, but BEFORE Reaper has finished saving it, so it’s just an empty .mid file at the time that SD3 imports it, and you end up with an empty MIDI block. Is there some way around this? The only thing I have figured out how to do so far is to drag & drop it, delete the empty MIDI block in SD3, then drag & drop the .mid file from my media explorer into SD3. It works, but it’s annoying!”
