Download the manual from RME and take a look. Mine is in a cupboard somewhere! So at 48k and buffers at 64 samples the output latency in Cubase shows 2.167ms On windows the lowest buffer setting is 48 samples which is 1.833ms I run my pc at 64 samples even with large projects. I can’t tell the difference when playing between 64 and 48 samples so I leave at 64

Thanks. This is slightly faster than the old Babyface (about half a millisecond – the speed of the new DAC is reason). And yes, you’re of course right: I can read the manual myself 🙂 . The “Safety Buffer” is (still) described there.

It seems that this thread has gone sideways, but I did want to add a couple of short thoughts:

    • The Roland module (stick-down to first audio sample) itself is around 3.5-4.5ms. I haven’t measured the recent modules, but the deformation of the piezo along with the scan time to detect the threshold is already a reasonable portion of that timing. More here…and be sure to read more than the first post, as a lot was learned along the way.
    • Sound travels at 1,100 feet/second, which means that it travels 1.1 foot in one millisecond. So even for acoustic drums, the more distant drums might be 1-2ms behind the strike.
    • That means that sending audio at about the speed of light (electrical signal) to be reproduced in your headphones could conceivably beat normal acoustic drums (or at least match).
    • The numbers that are reported in the software interfaces are estimates based on buffer sizes, routes, etc., and they don’t include the actual hardware detection/triggering. It’s very likely that a great USB MIDI setup is still on the order of 4.5ms+, though I imagine it could vary quite a bit.

MintberryCrunch is a genius!  I’ve done the 50X upgrade and changed nothing in SD3 and it was a seemless transition.  The cc data for the digital pads works to get all the articulations without failure if properly set up before the upgrade.  SD3 doesn’t know the difference from the midi information.  I’ve never been able to get “rim only” and “rim shot” to work properly on the digital snare with SD3 the way they do with the module.  I just use the velocity gate as a work around to have them both.

Any update from Toontrack on this? it would be really bad if I can’t use the new features of the digital pads with SD3. I mean….rimshot?!?!? how good is that! it would be a shame to not be able to enjoy that with SD3.
