Do I just need a USB to midi for a Roland TD-6V?

Sorry I’m new to this and cannot find an answer. I thought my brain had a USB but it just has midi. I was recommended to buy a mio the perfect 1 in 1 out MIDI to USB interface but want to make sure that will work before spending another $40.

Additionally, I have a Tascam US-16×08 which I believe would work but I’d rather not use it if not needed.

Looks like just a 5 pin cable out, no usb. Tascam should be good. Just need a 5 pin midi cable.

As for latency, I assume the tascam will be fine, it looks modern enough. More info here if you’re new.

If your current interface does not have MIDI input, yes, you have to buy it.
On the other hand, the Tascam interface you are talking about has MIDI input, so you just need to connect the MIDI Out of your electronic drumset module to the MIDI In of the interface with a 5 pin midi cable.

Thanks for your response. The brain of the TD-6V has midi in and out. I am trying to figure out if a usb from computer to midi on the brain is enough or if I must utilize the Tascam. I’d rather avoid the Tascam if its not needed. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks dude! I do think the Tascam will do fine, I am just new at this and didn’t want to have to rely on an extra interface. I was hoping to cut out the middle man (Tascam) if a single usb to midi will work with the TD-6V.

That Midi to USB product will probably convert the midi well. Do read the reviews on the product.

Without an audio interface to combat latency, which is what your Tascam is, you’ll want a pretty healthy computer processor.

Good to know. That’s the stuff I am still learning. I think I’ll buy the cable and know I have the Tascam as the back up to fix it if latency is an issue. Thank you so much.
