from Section 7.3.2 “The Grid Editor” of the SuperiorDrummer3 manual:

“When engaged the Snap option will cause all notes to conform to the grid.

The visible grid is based upon the zoom level (i.e.  the more zoomed in  you are, the more grid lines available). Opening the Resolution menu will allow you to choose the note division for the snapping of notes. When moved, notes will snap to this determined value regardless of the grid lines that are displayed. There is also an Auto option. This forces the note to snap to the very next grid line that is displayed, and thus determined by the zoom level.  The single Resolution menu is used by the Snap, Quantize, Swing, Randomize, and Nudge features.”

Let me make sure I completely understand that section of the manual. (because I had read it) It seems to imply that regardless of the grid (that calibrates its division based on your zoom level) you can have you notes quantized to any of the listed increments?

#1 – Does that only effect the notes you have selected or all notes….because that suggest hitting the “quantized” button.

#2 – The midi editor in my DAW (Reaper) will calibrate the grid based on what you select. What I like about this is that it allows you to compose/write…another words, you can “see” how things will line up, which helps you with counting and placement. Clearly, I could go back and forth between my DAW’s midi editor and SD3’s…but I really like SD3’s for everything else…+ that’s a little less than the easiest work flow;)

    So, SD3 doesn’t do what I’m talking about…correct?

And if not, that would be a GREAT feature to add IMHO.

When you set a value in the resolution drop down list, 1/8 for example, it means that when you from now on qantize, it will quantize to 1/8. Pressing the “Q max” button (or Q on your keyboard) is the same as dragging the quantize slider to 100%. Further, if you drag notes having Snap enabled, they will snap to 1/8. It doesn’t make a difference what notes you currently have selected when you make a selection in the resolution drop down menu.

The midi editor in my DAW (Reaper) will calibrate the grid based on what you select.

Do you mean that the grid lines will show the resolution that you have selected? We have this on our feature request list! Hopefully we’ll be able to add it to some coming update.

Yes, I was referring to the grid lines showing the resolution you have selected. I’m glad to here it’s in the works!

Question…how would I quantize just a selection of notes? (say there a new passage of 8 notes and I want to quantize them to a specific resolution…while NOT effecting my other notes)

You can only affect selected notes in the grid editor! The selected notes are the ones that will be affected when you change values with all the controllers in the row above the notes, e.g. quantize, swing, etc. If you have no notes selected, those controllers will be disabled.

Argh!   I need the grid lines to display as triplets.  But it cannot do it!  That’s very disappointing.

Oddly, it wasn’t working for me.  But after seeing your post I tried switching from 1/8 to 1/8t in the drop down a few times and, mysteriously, after a couple of times of no change it suddenly started working on the fourth or fifth try.  Huh.  This topic made me think it didn’t have that capability, so seeing your post was helpful, thanks.

It’s possible that you weren’t zoomed in enough for it to display the triplet divisions. Glad it’s working for you now.
