I have 2 computers win10 64 and mac catalina both running Studio One 5.5. I have a TD27 which I record live drums to midi on the mac. I then export the midi and load it into my win10 studio one session. everything is good except the hihats. Where the recording has a closed shank or tip articulation when I play it in my win10 the hats are sloshy open. Im not recording to the track in SD3 but to the track in studio one. Why is this happening? and how would I fix it. I dont want to record to the track in SD3 because of the take to layers feature in Studio one.
Thanks
jake

It sounds like you either didn’t export your MIDI CC data associated with your hi-hat’s pedal, or you didn’t import it in your other DAW.
jord
When you say you export midi do you mean as a midi file or a studio one project? I know with Cubase I just save the whole project and pass that onto people I collaborate with using Cubase without problem. In my case windows to Mac.
I would export the project so you don’t lose any data. I’m assuming it works similar to Cubase in that respect.
another thought. Is SD3 setup exactly the same on both with the same mappings?

Hi jord
I thought all midi data was exported. How do I see if the CC is in there?

Hi Mark
I never thought to save as a studio one file, that would probably work. But I do send these midi files to our guitar player who uses Reaper and he gets the sloshy Hihats too.

Hi Jake,
To check, create a new session on the rig you exported midi from originally and import the midi causing you grief. Do you get the open hihat? If so, as Mark indicated, your not getting CC data exported and copying the studio one session data to your PC should solve that problem. (I am not at my rig right now but will test this out this afternoon) Which kit and preset are you using?
Is your drum track done in stereo or multichannel? If stereo, you could render the drum track to audio in studio one and send your drum track to your guitar player as audio (I assume your guitarist isn’t making any changes, after-all… he’s/she’s a guitarist…… KIDDING… I’m kidding…. Put down your weapons)…. but seriously, that’s a workaround.
Another option is to record your drum track in SD3 and save it within the plug-in as a project. Copying that over to your PC. That way the preset as well as the MIDI and control data stay intact.
Just my 2 cents.

Hey Brad
Thanks for your input, I usually record Multi channel and have been sending the wav of the hats to the guitar player
I dont want to record in SD3 because when I screw up I have to delete the midi in studio one and SD3. Thats a pain.
If I just use the record takes to layers I can pick and choose the parts.
I have done the save as SD3p file that works.
Im going to try and save as a studio one song and see how that goes.
Thanks

I do t record in SD3 either. I prefer to keep all my midi in Cubase and use drum maps.

Ok I did a test with saving as a studio one song file. That works the hats play as they should. However when I export the midi file so I can send it off to the guitar player the file doesnt have the CC info. So how do I save that in the midi file?
Thanks for the help so far guys

I think I got it figured out. I saved the file as a musicloop in studio one and added it as a new track.
SD3 was inserted and it played correctly.
Now I have top see if the file plays correctly in reaper

Give it a shot, but I think muscloop is proprietary to Presonus and S1.

If that doesn’t work. Here are a couple of things to check.
Studio One > Preferences > External Devices – Make sure that Controllers (CC Messages) are not filtered.
On your drum track in Studio One, double click the MIDI track, bring up the MIDI edit window. Make sure that Foot Controller is on the list of visible Controllers. If not include it by clicking the 3 dots beside “Velocity” , goto into the MIDI folder list in the right side of the “Automation” data window and add Foot Controller.
Record some MIDI on your kit, export and import and see if the hi-hat data is included. I tried this with my Yamaha Kit and it worked. YMMV.

Ugh… I was hopeful. So could you do this; Create a new Studio One session. Record a couple of bars of drums, open, close hi-hats. Save it. Zip up the session folder and post it here and I can work on it on one of my rigs.
Cheers
